4 Tigers named AP football All-Ohio

Winning brings confidence to a football program. Winning also brings postseason honors, and four McClain Tiger football players received Associated Press All-Ohio honors this week from a sports media panel.
The Tigers this past season had a resurgence on the football field with a 7-3 record (a six-win improvement from the previous year), and a big part of that success on the field came from special mention All-Ohio players seniors Roscoe East and Brandon Davis and juniors Chris Sellman and Thomas Schrader.
East this season totaled 862 yards on 182 carries and 13 touchdowns in 10 games as he was selected to the team at running back. East was also first-team All-District and second-team All-South Central Ohio League.
"Roscoe was a workhorse back for us," MHS head coach Randy Closson said. "He ran the ball hard and made the most out of his abilities.
"One word that describes his running is restless. He wanted the carries and did a heck of a job for us. He'd fight for every yard he gained as he's not a fancy or finesse player."
Davis earned the honor at right guard for MHS. Davis started three seasons on the MHS offensive line with two All-SCOL selections, including first-team this season on the league postseason team and first-team All-District.

"Being a three-year starter for us, we wanted to run the ball behind Brandon," Closson said. "He's a solid working-class kid who gave his best every time he stepped onto the field. He'd compete to the best of his ability and was also outstanding for us at defensive tackle."
Sellman this postseason was selected first-team All-District on the defensive side, as the junior middle linebacker totaled 85 tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, two recovered fumbles and three forced fumbles.
"Some people considered him undersized at linebacker, but he has a great nose for the ball, and his work ethic is great," Closson said. "If someone overlooked him because of his height (5-8), he'd let them know he's out there with his hitting.
"He did a nice job for us defensively and coming back next year we'll going to count on him even more."
Schrader was also selected as a first-team All-District player on the defensive side this postseason. He totaled 60 tackles, five pass breakups and three interceptions, including one for a touchdown.
"Thomas has a great personality and is a fun kid to be around," Closson said. "He's a leader for us both offensively and defensively and picked up our defensive scheme really well.
"He's an anchor for us in our secondary, and we'll be glad to have him back next year."
McClain's seven wins this year came against Adena, Unioto, London, East Clinton, Madison-Plains, Washington and Hillsboro as MHS was 3-2 at home and 4-1 on the road.
In the '12 season, MHS was third in the SCOL at 5-2 in seven league games with a 10-game total scoring of 262 points, while allowing 219 as they ended the year with two straight wins.
