2nd half not enough for Tigers; fall to Zane Trace

GREENFIELD — Zane Trace opened the scoring early in the first half and a positive second half by the McClain Tigers wasn't enough, as the visiting Pioneers defeated the Tigers 5-2 Wednesday at McClain Field in non-league play.
The night was in honor of the memory of the Tigers' former head coach Shawn Jackson as he passed away this past February. Before, during and after the Tigers' soccer match, there were raffles and silent auctions, along with a Coach Shawn Jackson Alumni Soccer Game with past players who played for Jackson taking part in a purple and gold game.
As for the actual match with the current Tigers (who have two wins this season) … they trailed 4-0 at halftime but did outscore their opponent 2-1 in the second half as Lincoln O'Connor scored on a header with 8:43 left in the match. The final goal for the Tigers came with 47.3 remaining as Nic (Juan) Rivas scored a goal. Both goals for MHS were assisted by Ben Chamblin.

"The same thing happened (Wednesday) as it did in the last time we played, and that was we didn't play well in the first half," MHS coach Jon Chamblin said. "We played much better in the second half, but in the first, we came out sluggish."
As for the Pioneers, they were led by Eric Hutton with three goals in the first half. Also scoring a first half goal for ZT was Austin Proehl. The second half goal for Zane Trace was by Liam Vanhoose.
"Credit Zane Trace … they played well and moved the ball well," Chamblin said. "We made adjustments at the half, and I'll say this about our team … we are well conditioned. We just need to start playing like we can early in games. We didn't give up, but we just ran out of time."
MHS will host Clinton-Massie on Thursday in a South Central Ohio League match.
