2nd half dooms Lady Tigers; fall to Eastern Brown

GREENFIELD — The McClain Lady Tigers weren't able to have a repeat performance like the one they had over the weekend with a win. Instead, a tough second half all but ended their chances of their second win of the season, falling to the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors 51-41, Monday at MHS.
MHS (1-4) played tough in the first quarter, leading 14-9, and following each team scoring 10 points apiece in the second eight-minute period, the Lady Tigers were ahead 24-19 at the halfway point of the non-league game.
Then came the final 16 minutes … as they were outscored a total of 32-17 with Eastern winning the third, 15-9 and the fourth, 17-8.
Leading all scorers was McClain junior post player Tara Karnes with 22 points, as she made 10 two-point baskets while finishing 2-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Sophomore Shania Massie followed with 12 points (one 3-pointer), and sophomore Lauren Rayburn totaled four. Scoring two points was Sarah Thompson, and Caitlyn Lovett finished with one point.
[[In-content Ad]]For the game, MHS was 4-of-12 from the free-throw line and 18-of-52 from the field (35 percent). MHS also had 17 turnovers and 16 fouls.
As for the Lady Warriors of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, they were led in scoring by Kayla Seigla with 14 points and Molly Prine with 13 (including three 3-pointers).
Emily Turner totaled nine points.
Mariah Johnson followed with six points, and Makayla Purdy with five points (3-of-4 from the free-throw line). Tressie Lewis finished the scoring with four points.
Eastern finished 49 percent from the field (20-of-41) with 19 turnovers and 10 fouls, while going 8-of-11 from the free-throw line.
MHS plays again on Wednesday in South Central Ohio League play when they host the Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons.
