In 2013, the Adena Warriors finished the season at .500, one Scioto Valley Conference win away from being in the championship race. Now, the question for 2014 is: will this be the year the Warriors move up into the championship rung of the SVC ladder?
The Warriors are coached by Paul Thomas, and last season, when the Warriors were 5-5 overall, they finished 4-3 in the SVC, as the champions of the league were 5-2.
AHS scored a total of 223 points, while allowing 268, ending the season by winning three of their final four games, with those wins coming from Weeks 7-9.
In those final three wins, the Warriors defeated Southeastern (50-15), Paint Valley (25-24) and Unioto (24-6). Their other two wins came in Week 2 at River Valley by a 39-14 score and vs. Huntington (27-0).
[[In-content Ad]]Their losses came in Week 1 at McClain (47-21), at Fairfield Union (40-7), at Piketon (42-8), at Zane Trace (41-15) and at Westfall (39-7).
In their league games, AHS had a .571 winning percentage, with 156 points scored against teams from the SVC, while allowing 167 points in the conference.
This season, the non-conference schedule is a little different for the Warriors as they will host McClain in their annual matchup, a matchup the Tigers have won three of the past four meetings.
From there, AHS will travel to Reading, and they host Fairfield Union before taking on what is expected to be a very tough SVC slate in '14, with some coaches saying it will be one of the toughest SVC schedules in years.
In looking at the new member of the AHS non-conference schedule, Reading went 5-5 last season and 3-4 in the Cincinnati Hills Conference.
With Adena’s 5-5 finish last season, that was an improvement on their '12 season where they went 3-7 overall. The last overall winning season for the Warriors was 2010 as they were 7-3 overall, going 7-0 in the SVC that season.
The Warriors play in Division V, Region 17.
