Wildcats win big over Ripley; fall to South Point

The past two games for the Whiteoak Wildcats saw a big-time Southern Hills Athletic Conference win vs. Ripley, 62-38, and the following day, the Wildcats lost to South Point at the Dave Young Classic, 77-38.
In the Friday night win (Jan. 12) the Wildcats had a strong and effective first frame where they put 17 points on the board, leading the visiting Blue Jays, 17-9.
In the second quarter, the Wildcats outscored RHS 14-9 in the second for a 31-18 score when halftime arrived.
The second half saw Whiteoak score 18 points in the third and 13 points in the fourth quarter, while the visiting Blue Jays added four points to their overall total in the third and 16 points in the fourth frame.
Weston Blair led Whiteoak with 21 points, making eight two-point baskets and then going 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. He also added seven rebounds FHS, two assists, three steals and a block.
Brady Brandenburg followed with 10 points (one 3-pointer) and 12 rebounds for a double-double. He also made two two-point baskets, three free throws and had one assist and one steal.
The remainder of the WHS scoring included Sawyer Blair (8), Tyler Wessner (8), Zander Roades (4), Zack Igo (4), Aiden Crowe (4), Jackson Tedford (2) and Jonah Michael (1) .
The Wildcats totaled 24 field goals in the game and went 13-of-15 from the free-throw line.
Also for the Wildcats, as a team they totaled 43 rebounds, 17 assists, 12 steals and one block.
WHS committed 15 turnovers.
On Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats were back on the court in a non-conference game against South Point at the Dave Young Classic at North Adams High School.
WHS lost the game 77-38, as they trailed 20-8 when the first quarter finished, followed by SPHS outscoring the Wildcats 30-12 in the second for a halftime deficit of 50-20.
In the second half, South Point scored 15 points in the third and 12 points in the fourth frame. WHS added 10 points in the third quarter and eight points in the fourth.
Sawyer Blair led WHS with 13 points (two 3-pointers), followed by Brady Brandenburg with 11 points.
Also for WHS, scoring included: Zander Roades (7), Weston Blair (4), Aiden Crowe (3) and Zack Igo (2).
Weston Blair and Igo led WHS with five rebounds each, Roades led WHS with three assists, while Weston Blair and Roades each led WHS with two steals.
For the game, the Wildcats made 14 field goals (two 3-pointers), plus had 21 rebounds, six assists, five steals and 12 turnovers.
The two recent games leave Whiteoak at 4-2 in the SHAC Division II standings (second place) and 4-7 overall.
Next for Whiteoak is an away SHAC game on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at North Adams against the Green Devils, who are 5-0 in the SHAC Division I standings (first place) and 8-3 overall.
