Wildcats lose at Northwest

The Whiteoak Wildcats traveled to Northwest High School Saturday night and fell to the host Mohawks, 57-44.

In the non-conference game at NWHS in McDermott, Whiteoak trailed by 10 points after the first quarter by a 23-13 score, followed in the second frame by a 14-6 eight minutes in favor of the host Mohawks for a halftime score of 37-19. 

Whiteoak battled back and won the third frame at 15-9, but in the fourth quarter the Wildcats were outscored by the Mohawks, 11-10 for the 13-point loss. 

Five players reached the scoring column for the Wildcats, with Sawyer Blair leading the team with 13 points. Blair totaled two 3-pointers, two two-point baskets and he was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. 

Zander Roades totaled 11 points for WHS. He collected his points with four two-point baskets from the floor, and he was a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. 

Brady Brandenburg also scored 11 points, totaling five two-point baskets and one free throw. 

Weston Blair scored seven points, as he made three baskets from the floor and one free throw on two opportunities. Aiden Crowe rounded out the scoring with two points, making one basket. 

WHS totaled 18 rebounds with Brandenburg leading with five, followed by four rebounds from both Weston Blair and Sawyer Blair. 

Zach Igo totaled two rebounds, while Roades, Crowe and Tyler Wessner each had one rebound. 

WHS had four assists, one each from Roades, Crowe, Sawyer Blair and Weston Blair. 

Weston Blair totaled two steals, and Roades had one steal with WHS totaling three for the game. Weston Blair had one block for the Wildcats. 

WHS committed nine turnovers in the loss. 

The loss moves Whiteoak to 5-10 overall, and they are 5-4 in the SHAC Division II standings. 

Next for WHS is a SHAC game on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Peebles.
