Wildcats earn one-run victory over Eastern Meigs

The Whiteoak Wildcats earned a one-run non-conference win on Saturday, April 1 against the visiting Eastern Meigs Eagles by a 1-0 score at WHS.
The Wildcats scored what was the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning when David Donohoo crossed home plate (he initially reached the bases with a single) and was batted in by Carson Emery with a two-out single.
For the Wildcats, Luken Roades was 1-for-3 with a steal, and Landon Barnett finished 1-for-2 with a steal and a walk. Emery was 1-for-2 with an RBI, a steal and a walk.
Nate Price finished 1-for-3 with a steal, and there was also Eli Roberts with a walk and steal in the win. The Wildcats also saw Donohoo finish 2-for-3 with a run.
Barnett was the winning pitcher, as he pitched seven innings allowing no runs off two hits and one hit batter. Barnett collected 15 strikeouts in the win as he faced a total of 25 batters, improving to 2-0 overall this season on the mound.
“Landon Barnett and Carson Emery were the ‘difference makers’ (Saturday),” WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. “Landon continued his dominance on the mound with a 15 strikeout, two-hit performance and Carson with the clutch two-out RBI single in the fifth that ultimately was the game winning RBI.
“As a team we were solid defensively today and handled adverse weather conditions as if there were none. This was a great high school baseball game with a tournament-type feel, and it was a quality win.”
