Wildcats earn 23rd win with shutout victory over Valley

After a rare loss on Tuesday, the Whiteoak Wildcats were back to their winning ways Wednesday, defending their home field against their 15-win opponent, the Lucasville Valley Indians, by a 3-0 score.

Whiteoak’s win improves the Division IV No. 1 state-ranked Wildcats to 23-2 overall.

This most recent non-conference win saw the Wildcats score first with a run put on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning. WHS added their final two runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

The Wildcats ended the day with four hits, and the Indians (15-6 overall) had three hits.

Landon Barnett finished 1-for-3 with an RBI, and teammate Nate Price was 1-for-2 with one run, one walk and a steal. Luken Roades was 1-for-3 with a double. Eli Roberts had one hit at 1-for-2 with a run, one RBI, one walk and two steals.

Also for the Wildcats, Solomon Combs collected an RBI, and David Donohoo scored a run and was hit by a pitch.

Barnett was the winning pitcher, as the senior pitched all seven innings, allowing no runs on three hits and five walks. He also totaled five strikeouts.

Next for WHS is a non-conference road game on Friday, May 12 at Portsmouth with a 5 p.m. start.
