Whiteoak Lady ’Cats drop game to Williamsburg

On Thursday (March 27), the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats lost a non-conference road game to the host Williamsburg Lady Wildcats by a 9-3 score.

Williamsburg scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning for the early multiple-run lead. In the second, Williamsburg added another run for a four-run advantage, but Whiteoak battled back with three runs in the top of the third for a 4-3 deficit.

The host Lady Wildcats of Williamsburg had another three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth, building their lead to 7-3. In the bottom of the sixth, Williamsburg scored two more runs for their nine-run total.

The game saw Williamsburg total nine hits, and they committed one error. Whiteoak finished with two hits and committed three errors.

For WHS, hits were by Kylee Ruark, who was 1-for-4 with one RBI, and Elly McMullen, who went 1-for-2 with one walk.

Also for Whiteoak, Charli Hauke scored a run and walked once, Kylee Hamm collected two RBI, and Addy Hauke scored one run. McMullen and Charli Hauke each were hit by a pitch.

Oakley Engle had the loss in the circle, pitching three innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on seven hits and four walks, while having two strikeouts as she threw 68 pitches. Lily Leston (31 pitches, 18 for strikes) also pitched three innings in relief, allowing two runs (both runs) off two hits and one walk, with two strikeouts.

The loss moves Whiteoak to 0-3 overall this season.

Whiteoak is scheduled to play again Monday, March 31 at home against the Paint Valley Lady Bearcats in non-conference action at 5 p.m.
