Lady ’Cats move on to Div. VII district semifinals; fall in regular season game to EHS

The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats earned a Division VII SE District quarterfinal win on Wednesday by defeating the Miller Lady Falcons by a 9-7 score at Miller High School.
The May 13 win against the No. 8 seeded Lady Falcons saw No. 9 seeded Whiteoak jump out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning, then after outscoring MHS 4-1 in the second inning, it was the Lady ’Cats leading 5-1.
WHS (3-16) added a run in the top of the third, but the problem for the away team was Miller scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning, leaving Whiteoak and Miller tied at 6-6.
The Lady ’Cats regained the lead with a run in the top of the fourth, then scored two more runs in the top of the fifth for a 9-6 advantage. MHS scored one final run in the bottom of the fifth for a 9-7 final score with Whiteoak advancing to the semifinals.
WHS totaled three hits and had three errors, while Miller finished with eight hits and 10 errors.
Hits for WHS were off the bats of Matti Conrad (1-for-3, a steal, one run, one walk), Kyra Boyd (1-for-4, a steal, one run) and Kylee Ruark (1-for-4, a steal, one run).
Jenna Canada collected a run, one RBI and was hit by a pitch.
Chanel Captain finished with a run and a steal. Ivy Garrison collected two runs, two walks and was hit by a pitch.
McKinley Mootz scored two runs and walked three times. Jada Combs finished with two RBI, while teammate Ceaira Boggs collected an RBI and walked twice.
Boyd was the winning pitcher with seven innings pitched, as she had six strikeouts.
Next for the No. 9 seeded Lady Wildcats is a district semifinal game on Monday, May 18 against No. 1 seeded Notre Dame at Wellston High School with a 4 p.m start.

Lady ’Cats fall in non-conference game to Eastern
Friday evening saw the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats travel to the Eastern Lady Warriors in non-conference play, falling in five innings by a 13-2 score at EHS.
Whiteoak’s two runs came in the top of the second and fourth innings. Eastern scored nine runs in the bottom of the first, followed by a two-run second and one run in both the third and fourth innings.
Eastern finished with 11 hits and no errors, while Whiteoak had four hits and three errors.
Kylee Ruark was 2-for-2 for Whiteoak with one run, an RBI and three steals.
Matti Conrad went 1-for-2 with a run and a double. McKinley Mootz finished 1-for-2 with a double. WHS also had Layla Lear force a walk.
Pitching for WHS were Chanel Captain and Kyra Boyd.
WHS now stands at 3-17 overall. They are scheduled to play a district semifinal game on Monday, May 18 at No. 1 seeded Portsmouth Notre Dame in Wellston at 4 p.m.
