Mustangs top Felicity in OT

Tuesday night saw the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs earn a win in their final home game of the regular season, winning in overtime against the Felicity-Franklin Cardinals, 48-46. 

The two teams battled in the non-conference game to a 12-8 score in the first quarter in favor of the host Mustangs. Next was a 16-11 second quarter for the Mustangs, taking a halftime lead of 28-19. 

Felicity-Franklin won the third frame at 14-5 leaving the score tied at 33 points each after three quarters. The fourth quarter saw both teams score nine points each for a 42-42 score.  

In OT, the Mustangs prevailed with six points (holding the Cardinals to four points) for the two-point win at 48-46.

Denver Clinton led LCHS with 17 points, totaling six two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and he made two free throws. 

Cody Bell totaled 12 points for the Mustangs, making two 3-pointers, two two-point baskets and he was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. 

Other final scoring totals for LCHS included Braedon West (five), Austin Bell (five), Jay Cordrey (five), Josiah Burns (two) and Asher Faust (two). 

Totals for LCHS included 12 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers and they were 9-of-17 from the free-throw line. 

The rebound leaders for LCHS were Cody Bell, Austin Bell and Clinton, each with four boards. 

Other leaders in the game for the Mustangs were Austin Bell with four assists, three steals and one block (all team leads) vs. Felicity-Franklin. Clinton was a co-leader in blocks with one. 

The win sends LCHS to an overall record of 9-12 overall, and they are 5-7 in the Div. I standings of the SHAC. 

Next for LCHS is a makeup game in SHAC play on Friday, Feb. 16 against the Whiteoak Wildcats with a 7:30 p.m. start.
