Mustangs suffer road loss to Washington
On Friday night (Dec. 29), the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs finished the 2023 calendar year with a non-conference loss to the host Washington Blue Lions by a 68-40 score.
The Mustangs trailed 21-9 at the conclusion of the first quarter, and following a 9-8 second frame where Washington outscored the Mustangs, it was LCHS trailing at halftime, 30-17.
The second half saw WCH win the third at 21-9, and in the fourth quarter Washington scored 17 points, while Lynchburg-Clay had their best quarter scoring of the game with a 14-point effort.
Denver Clinton led LCHS with 16 points, followed by Jay Cordrey with eight points. Next in the scoring column were Asher Faust and Austin Bell with six points each. Cody Bell rounded out the Mustangs’ scoring with four points.
LCHS totaled three 3-pointers with two by Cordrey and one from Austin Bell.
The loss sends LCHS to an overall record of 4-5 overall.
Lynchburg-Clay is scheduled to play again on Friday, Jan. 5 on the road at North Adams in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action.
