Mustangs split DH with Paint Valley

Saturday afternoon saw the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs travel to Ross County to face the Paint Valley Bearcats in a non-conference doubleheader, where each team won a game on March 30. 

LCHS lost game one at 4-3 and rallied to win the second game by a 7-0 score. 

In game one, the Mustangs scored all three of their runs in the top of the third, as LCHS totaled five runs and committed three errors. PVHS scored one run in four different innings, with runs in the bottom of the first, second, fifth and seventh innings, as PVHS gained the walkoff win. The Bearcats totaled six hits and committed three errors in their win. 

Cole Wells finished 2-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI. Also with two hits for LCHS was Christian Flowers at 2-for-3. 

Having one hit for the Mustangs was Josiah Burns, who went 1-for-4 with one run and two steals. Austin Bell forced one walk in the loss. 

Pitching for LCHS was Braedon West, who in three innings pitched allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and he collected two strikeouts. Max Baker was charged with the loss. In four innings, Baker allowed two runs (none earned) on one hit and two HBP. He finished with four strikeouts.

In the second game of the twin bill, the Mustangs won by a 7-0 score over PVHS. 

The Mustangs led 1-0 after the first inning, and they added another run in the top of the second for a 2-0 lead. 

LCHS took a 5-0 lead with a three-run fifth inning, and they added two final runs in the top of the sixth inning. LCHS finished the game with six hits and no errors, while PVHS had four hits and four errors. 

Burns led LCHS at 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, one HBP and three steals. 

Cole Wells was 2-for-4 with one run and a steal. Isaac Eyre finished 1-for-3 with a run and two steals for the Mustangs. 

West collected a run and a walk, while Austin Bell collected one run, one RBI, a HBP and four steals. Asher Faust totaled one run, one walk and two steals. Cody Bell had one walk. 

The win went to Flowers, who in 3.1 innings pitched allowed no runs on three hits and he totaled four strikeouts. 

Trevor Niehaus pitched 2.2 innings, allowing no runs and no hits with three strikeouts. Eyre had one inning on the mound, allowing no runs on one hit. 

LCHS now stands at 3-2 overall after splitting the doubleheader on Saturday.
