Mustangs score 22 runs in run-rule win over West Union
Twenty-two runs were scored by the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs on Thursday, as they hosted and defeated the West Union Dragons, 22-1 in five innings.
The Mustangs wasted little time with a five-run first inning, followed by two runs in the second and 11 runs in the third inning. LCHS capped off their scoring with four runs in the fourth. West Union’s lone run crossed home plate in the top of the fifth.
For the game, the Mustangs had 10 hits and played errorless baseball. WUHS totaled three hits and committed 11 errors.
The winning pitcher was Christian Flowers, who pitched three innings, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk. He threw 47 pitches, 29 for strikes, as he faced 11 batters.
Josiah Burns pitched two innings where he allowed one earned run on two hits and four walks, with five strikeouts. Burns totaled 41 pitches, 21 for strikes, facing 10 batters.
Burns also was 2-for-4 from the plate, collecting a triple, four runs, two RBI, a steal and was hit by a pitch.
Braedon West finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Kaydon Fyffe finished 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Cody Bell was 1-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, two walks and a steal. Asher Faust finished 1-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, a double and two steals. Isaac Eyre was 1-for-2 with three runs, one RBI and two walks. Luke Smith ended the day 1-for-2.
Austin Bell totaled two runs, three RBI and two walks, while Christian Flowers finished with a run, one RBI and a walk. Brayden Oberrecht collected an RBI and was hit by a pitch, and teammate Jacob Allen ended the game with one run, one RBI, a walk and a HBP.
The win moves the Mustangs to 4-6 overall this season.
