Mustangs lose to Westfall

Going on the road Saturday night (Feb. 3), the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs played a makeup game against a non-conference foe, the Westfall Mustangs, and though LC battled tough, they were outscored by nine points in the second half, resulting in a 55-51 loss. 

LCHS led after the first half where they led 17-13 after the first quarter, and following a 16-15 second frame in favor of LCHS, the LC Mustangs held a 33-28 halftime advantage. 

The second half saw LCHS outscored by Westfall 15-9 and 12-9 in the third and fourth quarters.

Lynchburg-Clay was led by Denver Clinton with 22 points, as he made 10 two-point baskets and was 2-of-5 from the free-throw line. 

Cody Bell finished with 16 points, as he sank four 3-pointers, a two-point basket and was 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. 

Also scoring points for the Mustangs were Josiah Burns (six), Austin Bell (four) and Braedon West (three).

The Mustangs were 5-of-10 from the free-throw line, while Westfall finished 12-of-15. Both teams committed six turnovers. 

Westfall was led in scoring by Brady Clark with 29 points and Jeremiah Layton with 19 points. 

The loss moved LCHS to 8-10 overall.
