Mustangs lose to Eastern in SHAC battle
The battle of the top two teams in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference Division I standings went to the Eastern Warriors on Monday, as they defeated the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs, 7-5 at LCHS.
Both teams scored two runs in the first inning, and after a scoreless second inning by each squad, Eastern built a 4-3 lead after the Warriors scored two more runs, and LCHS crossed home plate for one run.
Eastern and Lynchburg-Clay each scored a run in the sixth inning, and Eastern added one final run in the top of the seventh for the two-run win over the host Mustangs.
Each team collected eight hits, but LCHS committed five errors, and the Warriors had four errors.
Cole Wells ended the game leading LCHS at 3-for-4 with one run and two RBI.
Trevor Niehaus was 2-for-4 with one run.
Also for the Mustangs, Austin Bell went 1-for-3 with one RBI, and a walk.
Elam Faust finished the game at 1-for-3 with two runs and one HBP.
Christian Flowers was 1-for-3 with one RBI, a double and one HBP. Josiah Burns scored a run in the LCHS loss.
Braedon West pitched 6.2 innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on eight hits and three walks, with six strikeouts. Max Baker pitched 0.1 innings, allowing no runs or hits with one strikeout.
The win moves EHS to 4-0 in the SHAC Div. I standings (first place) and 8-1 overall. LCHS is now 5-2 in Div. I SHAC standings (second place) with an overall record of 7-7.
