Mustangs, Lady Mustangs both shut out Ripley in SHAC wins
The Lynchburg-Clay varsity high school soccer program didn’t allow a goal in two separate matches on Monday (Aug. 26), with both the boys and girls teams earning shutout wins against the host Ripley Blue Jays.
In the Southern Hills Athletic Conference wins, the Mustangs boys team won by a score of 11-0, and the Lady Mustangs team won by a 9-0 score.
For the LCHS boys, Austin Bell had an outstanding game with a four-goal performance, while Josiah Burns and Mason Fisher each finished with two goals.
Scoring one goal apiece for the Mustangs were Aric Slack, Alexander VanFleet and Braedon West.
Assists were credited to Noah Bitzer and Wyatt Osborn with two each, and with one each were Cody Bell, Elam Faust and Harley Lewis.
LCHS keeper Isaac Eyre finished with two saves.
The win improves LCHS to 4-1 overall in the boys soccer standings, and they move to 3-0 in the SHAC standings.
For the LCHS girls team, they won by a 9-0 score in their SHAC contest at Ripley.
Addie Cordrey and Miranda Smith each finished with two goals, while Caitlyn Collins, Aubrey Slack, Olivia VanFleet, Caraline West and Haidyn Wolfe each scored one goal.
LCHS totaled five assists, and they were made by Smith, Cordrey, Reese Ruble and Slack.
At goal for LCHS, Allie Waits had one save, and Caitlyn Collins was also at goal for the Lady Mustangs in the shutout.
The win by LCHS moves the Lady Mustangs to a 1-0 SHAC mark and 2-2 overall.
