Mustangs gain 3rd straight shutout

In four of their past six games, including three straight, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs haven’t allowed a single run, and in all six of those games LCHS has allowed just two runs combined. Their most recent shutout win came on Wednesday, April 30 at home against the Manchester Greyhounds by a 10-0 score.
The Southern Hills Athletic Conference win by the Mustangs on their home diamond was their second consecutive 10-0 victory, as on Monday (April 28) LCHS defeated the Eastern Warriors by the same score.
However, on Wednesday the Mustangs scored first with one run in the bottom of the first inning, then held a 7-0 lead when they added six runs in the bottom of the third.
From there, LCHS scored the final three runs of the game with a three-run fourth inning. For the game, the Mustangs totaled eight hits and no errors, while Manchester had one hit and one error.
Six of the eight LCHS hits were from three players, as leadoff batter Josiah Burns went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Quin Wells finished 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBI. Trevor Niehaus ended the game at 2-for-3 with one turn and four RBI.
Cole Wells finished 1-for-1 with two hits by pitches, while teammate Cody Bell was 1-for-3 with one run.
Elam Faust finished with a walk and a run, Christian Flowers forced two walks, Tanner Roberts also scored a run and added an RBI, and rounding out the accomplishments was Braedon West with a walk.
Steals were made by Faust, Cole Wells, Bell and Niehaus.
West was also the winning pitcher, ending the game with a one-hitter, as in five innings he allowed no runs on one hit and no walks with 10 strikeouts.
The victory puts the Mustangs at 12-2 overall and 9-0 in the SHAC Division I standings, where they sit in first place. This win also marked their 10th shutout overall. In second place in the Div. I standings is Eastern at 5-2. The loss puts Manchester at 4-2 in the SHAC Div. II standings and 6-4 overall.
