Mustangs earn regular-season wins over Indian Hill and New Richmond

Playing in late regular-season games before they start tournament play in Division V, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs gained non-conference wins over Indian Hill and New Richmond, as they gained their 18th and 19th wins of the season.
On Monday, May 19, the Mustangs traveled to face the Indian Hill Braves in non-conference play and they returned home with an 11-7 win.
Indian Hill led 3-2 after the first inning, and the score was 5-3 after the third inning with LCHS adding one run and Indian Hill scoring twice. The Mustangs got to within a run of tying the score with a two-run fourth inning.
The Braves took a three-run lead with two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Mustangs rallied with six runs in the top of the seventh inning for what became the final lead of four runs.
LCHS finished the game with 10 hits and three errors, while Indian Hill had nine hits and two errors.
Four Lynchburg-Clay batters had two hits each, as leadoff batter Josiah Burns was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Cole Wells finished 2-for-5 with a double, one run and two RBI.
Christian Flowers went 2-for-5, and also with two hits was Tanner Roberts at 2-for-2 with two runs, one RBI and two walks. Trevor Niehaus finished 1-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBI, while teammate Quin Wells was 1-for-1 with a triple, one run, three RBI, a SAC fly and two walks.
Braedon West collected a run, one RBI and two walks. Cody Bell finished with one run, a steal, and a walk. Elam Faust scored a run, while also collecting an RBI and a walk.
Flowers was the winning pitcher, going 1.1 innings in relief where he allowed no runs on one hit and one walk with three strikeouts. West pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts in the no-decision.

LCHS played next on Saturday, May 24 on the road at New Richmond in non-conference play, where they defeated the host Lions 9-1.
The Mustangs scored at least one run in five of the seven innings played, starting with the top of the second by taking a 1-0 lead. LCHS added another run in the third inning, then followed with consecutive three-run innings in the fourth and fifth, while also scoring one last run in the top of the seventh inning. New Richmond scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
For the game, LCHS totaled seven hits and committed an error. New Richmond totaled seven hits and committed five errors.
Elam Faust had two hits in the win, including a triple, while also finishing 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Braedon West finished 1-for-4 with three RBI and a walk.
Cole Wells was 1-for-4, while teammate Christian Flowers ended the day at 1-for-3 with a double, three runs and a walk.
Quin Wells finished 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. LCHS teammate Trevor Niehaus was 1-for-2 with two runs, one RBI, a HBP and a walk.
The Mustangs also had Josiah Burns force three walks, was hit by a pitch and collected an RBI. Cody Bell collected an RBI, while Tanner Roberts finished the day by scoring a run and walking once. Kristian Beachy also forced a walk.
Steals were credited to Ryan Creditt, Austin Bell and Quin Wells.
Cole Wells was the winning pitcher, going four innings, while allowing no earned runs on six hits and no walks with five strikeouts. Flowers pitched three innings, where he allowed one run (none earned) on one hit and no walks.
LCHS is now 19-3 overall.
