Mustangs earn nonconference win over Astros
The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs defended their home diamond with aggressive scoring on Wednesday night, defeating the visiting East Clinton Astros, 13-2 in five innings for a non-conference run-rule victory.
The dominant display of baseball by LCHS included one run in the first inning, then four runs in the bottom of the second and a seven-run third inning. LCHS capped the scoring off with one run in the fifth to secure the run-rule win.
Of their 11 hits, the Mustangs had Braedon West finish 4-for-4 with four runs, a double, two RBI and a steal.
Cole Wells was 3-for-3 with a HBP, one run, four RBI and two steals.
Josiah Burns finished 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk. Luke Smith collected an RBI, a walk and a steal.
There was also Cody Bell at 1-for-2 with one run, one RBI, and he had three steals. Christian Flowers was 1-for-2 and collected two runs, one RBI, one walk, a double and a steal.
Isaac Eyre scored a run and had a walk, while Kaydon Fyffe finished with a run and a RBI. Jack Allen was 1-for-3 in the win with a run and RBI for LCHS.
Brayden Oberrecht pitched five innings for the complete game. He allowed two earned runs on five hits and four walks. He also totaled six strikeouts for the win, throwing 93 pitches, 54 for strikes, and facing 26 batters.
The win moves LCHS to 6-10 overall this season.
