Mustangs earn 10-point win over Peebles

Going on the road for a Friday night Southern Hills Athletic Conference game on Jan. 26, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs defeated the Peebles Indians, 49-39.
LCHS earned the win with a dominant first half as they outscored the Indians 17-6 in the first quarter and 10-8 in the second frame for a 27-14 lead.
The same can be said for the third quarter, as the Mustangs added 16 points to their total and PHS scored 11 for an LCHS lead of 43-25.
The fourth frame saw PHS score 14 points and the Mustangs add six points.
Denver Clinton led LCHS with 20 points, as he made seven two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and he was 3-of-5 from the free-throw line.
Braedon West totaled 13 points with four 3-pointers and one made free throw.
The rest of the LCHS scoring included Austin Bell (six), Cody Bell (four), Josiah Burns (three) and Jay Cordrey (three).
In all, LCHS totaled eight 3-pointers (West 4, Austin Bell 2, Clinton 1, Cordrey 1).
LCHS also totaled 23 rebounds with Clinton leading the way with six. Austin Bell was the assists leader with four, and Clinton also led LCHS with four steals.
The Mustangs collected two blocks, those being from Austin Bell and Clinton.
LCHS committed 13 turnovers, and Peebles had 15 turnovers.
Peebles was led by Carson Reed with 27 points.
The win moves LCHS to 4-6 in the SHAC Division I standings and 7-9 overall. Peebles moves to 4-6 in the SHAC Div. I standings and 6-9 overall.
Next for LCHS is a game on Friday, Feb. 2 at home against the West Union Dragons.
