LC Mustangs soccer wins at home vs. Falcons; Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs fall to Minford in season opener

Saturday afternoon was the start of the 2024 soccer season for Lynchburg-Clay as the boys soccer team opened with a non-conference win against Minford, while the Lady Mustangs lost in their opening game of the season against the Lady Falcons.

Four Lynchburg-Clay players scored a goal in the non-conference win at home against Minford. The goals were scored by Josiah Burns, Austin Bell, Noah Bitzer and Elam Faust.

Burns and Braedon West each were credited with an assist in the comeback win by LCHS.

At goal for the Mustangs was Isaac Eyre, who finished with three saves.

The LCHS boys now stand at 1-0 overall.

LCHS is scheduled to play again on Monday, Aug. 19 in a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game against the Whiteoak Wildcats with a 4:30 p.m. start.

In the girls game, LCHS lost to Minford by a 2-1 score.

The lone goal for Lynchburg-Clay was scored by Miranda Smith, an unassisted goal.

Goals for Minford were scored by Sadie Tieman (unassisted), who tied the score at 1-1 in the first half. The game-winning goal came from Lexi Conkel, with the assist by Tieman.

Minford’s Addison Lemon totaled three saves, and LC keeper Allie Waits finished with five saves.

The loss sends LCHS to an 0-1 record.  

The Lady Mustangs played again Monday, Aug. 19 on the road against the Hillsboro Lady Indians at HHS in a non-conference contest.
