Lady Mustangs win 2 consecutive SHAC games

Tuesday and Wednesday were good days for Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs softball, as the team earned two consecutive Southern Hills Athletic Conference wins by defeating Peebles and North Adams. 

Tuesday (April 16) was a 12-4 victory for the Lady Mustangs over Peebles, with LCHS and Peebles each scoring two runs in the third inning for a 2-2 score. PHS took a 4-2 lead with one run in each of the next two innings, holding the lead at the conclusion of the top of the fifth inning. 

Lynchburg-Clay took the game in their own hand and they never looked back with a 10-run fifth inning, as that completed the scoring for both teams in the SHAC contest, giving LCHS a eight-run win. 

LCHS finished the game with 16 hits and they also committed seven errors. The Lady Indians had five hits and one error. 

Caitlyn Collins went 3-for-4 for the Lady Mustangs, collecting three runs and one RBI. Also with three hits was Autumn Griffith, as she was 3-for-4 with four RBI and a double. 

Madison McMullen was 2-for-4 with a double, one run and four RBI, while Noel Barnhill was 1-for-4 with one RBI. The Lady Mustangs also had Sophia Michael go 1-for-4, and Kami Collins was 2-for-3 with one run, one RBI and one walk.

Madison Baker ended the game at 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. The Lady Mustangs also had Jazzy Brown for 2-for-2 with three runs and one walk. 

Collins and Baker each had a steal, and Avery Blankenship was hit by a pitch. 

Barnhill was the wining pitcher, pitching all seven innings, as she allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks. Barnhill finished with 16 strikeouts, pitching 119 pitches, 91 for strikes.

Wednesday evening (April 17) at LCHS, the Lady Mustangs defeated North Adams, 8-3 in SHAC action. 

Again, it was a big night at the plate for LCHS, as they totaled 13 hits and had only one error. North Adams finished with five hits and two errors. 

Madison McMullen led LCHS with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, as she scored one run and collected two RBI. 

Caitlyn Collins for the Lady Mustangs was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, and Autumn Griffith was 1-for-3 with one RBI and one walk. 

Noel Barnhill finished the game 1-for-4, while Avery Blankenship had one RBI. Sophia Michael had a game where she was 1-for-4 with one run. 

Kami Collins for the game was 1-for-3 with a run, while teammate Madison Baker was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Jazzy Brown for the Lady Mustangs was 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. 

Extra-base hits for LCHS included a home run by Baker and doubles hit by Kami Collins, Caitlyn Collins, Baker, McMullen and Brown. Reese Ruble, Miranda Smith and Brown all had a steal. 

Barnhill was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings in the circle. She finished the game allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks, with 11 strikeouts. 

LCHS is now 4-6 overall this season.
