Lady Mustangs take 2 of 3 past games; earn SHAC victories

DODSONVILLE — Tuesday evening the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs chipped away at Southern Hills Athletic Conference opponent, the Eastern Lady Warriors, for a 5-1 win at LCHS. 

LCHS gained the conference win with runs scored in four of their six innings at the plate. Their scoring began with one run crossing home plate in the bottom of the first inning, as Jazmine Brown scored the first run by stealing home. 

The bottom of the second saw the Lady Mustangs take a 2-0 lead following a home run off the bat of Sadie Kuipers over the left field fence on a 1-0 count. 

Eastern made it a 2-1 score with a run in the top of the third, but the bottom of the fifth saw LCHS take a 3-1 lead when Audrey Barry hit a home run over the left field fence in the first pitch of the at-bat. 

The Lady Mustangs added to their lead for a 5-1 advantage as Brown stole home for the second time in the game for a run, and Kuipers hit a single to centerfield to score Noel Barnhill. 

In all, the Lady Mustangs totaled nine hits and committed two errors, while Eastern had seven hits and one error. 

Kuipers ended the day at 3-for-3 with one run and two RBI, including her aforementioned home run. 

Brown finished the day at 2-for-3 with two runs, a double and two steals. 

Also going 2-for-3 was Barnhill, collecting one run and two steals. Barnhill was the winning pitcher, pitching four innings, where she allowed no earned runs on two hits and no walks with four strikeouts. 

Barry finished 1-for-3 with a home run, one RBI,and one run. 

Aubrey Roberts was also 1-for-3. Roberts pitched three innings, allowing no earned runs on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

Wednesday saw the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs fall to the Georgetown Lady G-Men, 9-7 at Georgetown High School in 11 innings. 

Georgetown led 5-2 after the first inning, and no more runs were scored until the top of the fifth and sixth innings with LCHS adding a run in the fifth, and three more in the sixth inning. From there, it was GHS tying the score at 6-6 with a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. 

Both teams scored a run in the ninth inning, and it wasn’t until the bottom of the 11th inning where GHS won in walk-off fashion with a two-run home run by Morgan Preston over the centerfield fence for the win over Lynchburg-Clay. 

The game ended with LCHS totaling 13 hits with five errors, while GHS collected 12 hits and had three errors. 

Noel Barnhill finished 3-for-5 with two runs, one RBI and a walk with two doubles. 

Sadie Kuipers was 3-for-6 with two RBI, a double and a steal. 

Aubrey Roberts finished 2-for-6 with one run, while Jazmine Brown went 2-for-6 with a run and a steal.

Kendra Doss had a big game, being 2-for-5 at the plate with a home run, one run and one RBI. 

Kylee Tong was 1-for-4 with one RBI. Audrey Barry scored a run, was hit by a pitch and had a steal. Sophia Michael scored a run. 

Barnhill pitched 10 innings (into the 11th) where she struck out four batters.

The following day, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs were back on the softball field for Southern Hills Athletic Conference action, winning in six innings at Ripley High School against the Ripley Lady Blue Jays by a 16-1 score. 

LCHS took a 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning and then a 7-0 lead when they scored three runs in the top of the second. In the fourth inning, the Lady Mustangs added two runs for a nine-run advantage. 

Next, each team scored a run in the fifth inning, and LCHS took a 16-1 lead when they scored six runs in the top of the sixth. 

The Lady Mustangs totaled 24 hits and had no errors. RHS totaled six hits and no errors. 

Five Lady Mustang players each had three hits, as Jazmine Brown was 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles and one RBI. 

Noel Barnhill was 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, two doubles and a steal. 

Sophia Michael finished 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, a walk and a double.

Sadie Kuipers was 3-for-5, as she had two runs and one RBI. 

Reese Ruble finished 3-for-5 with one run, three RBI, a double and a home run.

Everleigh Barry went 2-for-3 with one RBI and a steal. Aubrey Roberts finished the game at 2-for-4 with two runs, one walk, one double and a HBP.

Kami Collins ended the game at 1-for-2 with a steal. Caraline West was 1-for-3 with a run. 

Kylee Tong was 1-for-2 with a run, four RBI and a home run. 

Audrey Barry went 1-for-1 with one RBI and one HBP. Kendra Doss finished the game at 1-for-3 with a run, one RBI, a walk, a double, a HBP and a steal. 

Roberts pitched five innings, where she allowed one earned run on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts for the win. Doss pitched one inning, allowing no earned runs on one hit.
