Lady Mustangs add wins against Peebles, East Clinton

On two consecutive days, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs earned two wins, one being a Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory at Peebles on Tuesday, and a non-conference win on Wednesday vs. East Clinton.

East Clinton led by two runs after the first two innings on Wednesday, then held a three-run lead with a run in the third.

LCHS battled with a run in the bottom of the fourth and took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Lady Mustangs totaled three hits and committed two errors, while ECHS had six hits and two errors.

Kami Collins had both hits for LCHS, going 2-for-2 with a run, one walk and a steal. Autumn Griffith was 1-for-3 with a run and to RBI.

Noel Barnhill finished with a walk and two steals; Caitlyn Collins scored run and totaled four steals; Brya McClain finished with one run, a walk and a steal; and Sarah McKinney drew a walk.

Barnhill pitched five innings, where she allowed one earned run on one hit and a walk, as she collected eight strikeouts.

McKinney pitched two innings on Wednesday, allowing two earned runs. On two hits and two walks, she finished with four strikeouts.

As for the win on Tuesday at Peebles, LCHS won by a 7-1 score, totaling eight hits and they had four errors. Peebles had just two hits, and they committed two errors.

For LCHS, they scored a run in the top of the first and added three runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth inning. Peebles scored their lone run in the bottom of the third.

Madison Baker was 2-for-4 for LCHS with a run scored. Morgan Baker also scored a run.

Barnhill was 2-for-3 with a run, one RBI and a HBP. Ella Barry finished with a walk, and Caitlyn Collins was 1-for-3 with a run a walk and a steal. Somara Donley was hit by a pitch, and Autumn Griffith finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Brya McClain went 1-for-3 in the win by LCHS as she also had an RBI and a HBP. Sarah McKinney went 1-for-4 with a run, and Miranda Smith scored a run and had a steal.

Barnhill pitched four innings, where she allowed no runs on one hit and one walk. She collected seven strikeouts.

McKinney pitched three innings, as she allowed one earned run on one hit and no walks, with one strikeout.

The two wins by LCHS moved them to 8-7 overall, and they are 6-4 in Division I of the SHAC.
