Basketball Report: Lady Mustangs, Lady Lions and Wildcats fall in recent games

LCHS falls at West Union
Strong first and fourth quarters by the host West Union Lady Dragons were enough to defend their home court against the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs, as they defeated LCHS by a 53-41 score on Monday at WUHS.
LCHS trailed 16-10 at the end of the first quarter, and the Lady Mustangs were outscored 7-5 in the second for a halftime deficit of 23-15.
The Lady Mustangs battled back and won the third frame at 13-12, but West Union showed they are an improved team over previous seasons, as they outscored LCHS 18-13 in the fourth quarter for a 12-point win over LCHS in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference game.
For LCHS, they were led in scoring by Addy Carraher with 13 points, as she made one two-point basket, one 3-pointer and she was 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Madison McMullen finished with 11 points for the Lady Mustangs with three two-point baskets, and she went 5-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Other scoring for Lynchburg-Clay included Savannah Bell with six points, as she made one two-point basket, one 3-pointer and one free throw. Lily Ferguson totaled two points, Ava McLaughlin made one free throw for one point and Allie Waits also sank a free throw for one point.
LCHS as a team totaled eight two-point baskets, three 3-pointers and were 16-of-30 from the free-throw line.
West Union was led in scoring by Annabelle McIntosh with 15 points and Olivia Lewis with 14 points. Both players made three 3-pointers each.
The win improves WUHS to 2-0 in the SHAC and 3-0 overall, while LCHS is 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the SHAC.

Fairfield loses non-conference game at Adena
Playing the Adena Lady Warriors of the Scioto Valley Conference, the Fairfield Lady Lions lost a tough road game on Monday evening by a 47-32 score at AHS.
Fairfield scored eight points in the first quarter and added eight more points in the second, while Adena had a 14-point first frame and added seven more points in the second for a halftime score of 21-16 in favor of the home team Lady Warriors.
Adena outscored Fairfield 11-4 in the third and 15-12 in the fourth frame to seal the win.
For the Lady Lions, the leading scorer was Meri Jackson with 16 points, making eight two-point buckets.
The rest of the Lady Lions scoring was Isabelle Hale (five), Rilee Quickle (four), Vivian Henninger (three), Addison Cannon (two) and McKinley Cox (two).
As a team, FHS finished with 14 two-point field goals, one 3-pointer (Hale), and they were 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Adena was led in the scoring column by Marly Holcomb with 20 points, making two 3-pointers in her final scoring total.
The loss moves FHS to 0-3 overall.

Wildcats drop road game at Bethel-Tate
Bethel-Tate came out with a 24-point first quarter on Tuesday and never looked back, as they defeated the Whiteoak Wildcats, 52-38 in their non-conference game at BTHS.
The Wildcats were outscored 24-6 in the first quarter and 9-8 in the second for a halftime deficit of 33-14. Whiteoak outscored BTHS 15-14 in the third and 9-5 in the fourth frame.
Brady Brandenburg was Whiteoak’s leading scorer with 14 points as he totaled six two-point baskets and was 2-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Jonah Michael finished with nine points with three two-point baskets and one 3-pointer. Also for WHS, Sawyer Blair totaled six points with one two-point field goal, a 3-pointer and he was 1-of-2 in his free throw attempts.
Zander Roades totaled five points with a 3-pointer and two-point basket. Both Jackson Tedford and Aiden Crowe each scored two points.
Whiteoak’s team totals included 13 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers and they were 3-of-5 from the free-throw line.
Bethel-Tate was led by Owen Murray with 19 points and Griffin Davis with 18 points.
WHS is now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SHAC.
