Western Brown wins against Lady Indians
The Hillsboro Lady Indians were unable to gain a home non-conference win Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27), as they lost to the visiting Western Brown Lady Broncos by a 59-41 score.
Hillsboro trailed by just four points after the first quarter as WBHS outscored them 13-9 in the opening eight minutes, followed by the visiting Lady Broncos winning the second frame at 17-10 for a halftime score of 30-19.
Each team added 12 points to their their scoring totals in the third frame, with the Lady Broncos leading 42-31 after three quarters, and in the fourth frame WBHS outscored Hillsboro 17-10 for the final 18-point win over Hillsboro.
HHS had positives in the game, one being the play of Blake Herdman, as she led the team with 14 points. Those points came off two 3-pointers, three two-point buckets and she was 2-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Tylee Davis totaled six points in the loss to WBHS, making three two-point baskets, and she was followed by Peighton Bledsoe, Addyson Miles and Kobie Miles with five points apiece.
Other scoring for HHS included Kyra Boyd (four) and Rylie Scott (two).
As a team, the Lady Indians totaled 12 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers and they were 5-of-8 from the free-throw line.
HHS grabbed 31 rebounds, with Davis leading the way with nine boards, followed by Boyd and Herdman with six rebounds each. HHS also collected 12 assists, with Kobie Miles having four and Addyson Miles with three.
The Lady Indians also collected 11 steals with the trio of Scott, Davis and Herdman each having three. HHS also committed 24 turnovers.
The loss moves Hillsboro to 9-10 overall this season, and they are currently 5-4 in the Frontier Athletic Conference standings.
HHS will play a makeup game with the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats in a non-conference Highland County showdown on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at HHS with a 7 p.m. start. The game was originally scheduled for Monday, Jan. 29 but was postponed due to illness for Whiteoak.
From there, HHS will host the McClain Lady Tigers on Saturday, Feb. 3 at HHS with a 3:30 p.m. start. Then the final regular-season game is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 7 at home vs. Wilmington with a 7 p.m. scheduled start.
