Miami Trace wins FAC game over Indians

For the second consecutive day, the Hillsboro Indians lost a Frontier Athletic Conference game to the Miami Trace Panthers, as this time the loss was at MTHS with the Indians falling to the Panthers by a 16-3 score Tuesday night (April 23). 

The Indians trailed 3-1 at the conclusion of the first inning, then after being outscored 6-1 in the second inning, it was the Panthers leading Hillsboro, 9-2 after two innings. 

HHS added a run in the top of the third, followed by Miami Trace scoring two runs in the bottom of the third. MTHS scored five more runs in the bottom of the fourth to complete the scoring for the game. 

Miami Trace finished the game with 11 hits and one error, while Hillsboro totaled six hits and one error. 

Six Hillsboro players each had a hit in the conference loss, with Jackson Cornele going 1-for-1 with two walks. Wesley Bailey also finished 1-for-1, while teammate Gavin Greer was 1-for-2 with one RBI and a walk. 

The Indians also had Walker Pence finish 1-for-3 with one run scored. Zach Burwinkel ended the game at 1-for-3 (a double), and Nic Burns was 1-for-3 with a run scored. 

Zack Brown forced one walk for Hillsboro, and Brayden Hunter collected one RBI and two walks. Ben Miller totaled one walk in the FAC loss. Burns, Cornele (two) and Bailey all had steals. 

Four HHS players pitched in the game at Miami Trace, with Hunter going one inning, allowing no runs with no hits and three strikeouts. Miller pitched 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. 

Logan Zurface and Ashton Clemons also pitched in the game against the Panthers. 

The loss sends the Indians to a 1-15 overall and 0-8 in the FAC.
