Lady Indians win 2 of 3 recent games

Thursday (April 18) saw the Hillsboro Lady Indians earn a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win over the Washington Blue Lions, followed by two games over the weekend on Saturday (April 20) as they defeated Bishop Ready and lost to Pickerington North at PNHS. 

After the three games, the Lady Indians are now 14-2 overall. 

Thursday’s win was a five-inning run-rule victory as Hillsboro defeated Washington 11-0 to stay undefeated in the Frontier Athletic Conference standings. 

Hillsboro didn’t waste any time in setting the tempo of the game from the plate with a four-run first inning on their home field at HHS, followed by one run in the second, four runs in the fourth and two final runs in the fifth inning. 

The Lady Indians totaled 14 hits in the win, while allowing only two hits. Washington committed four errors, while the Lady Lions had three errors. 

Halle Reveal was 2-for-3 at the plate for Hillsboro, being one of three players to have two hits for the Lady Indians in the game. Reveal added two runs to her overall totals. 

Eowyn Brown went 2-for-4 with two run, and three RBI, and the other HHS player with two hits against Washington was Morgan Garman, who went 2-for-2 with one run. 

Mylea Fridley was 1-for-2 with one RBI for the Lady Indians, and Chanel Captain finished 1-for-1 in the game. 

Camryn Spruell finished 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI. Chloe Roberts was 1-for-3 with a home run, one run and three RBI in the victory. 

Addi Huff was 1-for-3 with a steal, and teammate Rilynn Swisshelm finished 1-for-1 with a run. The Lady Indians also had Meredith Dietrick finish 1-for-1 with one run. 

Spruell was the winning pitcher, going all five innings in the circle. She finished with no runs allowed on two hits and no walks, all while collecting 11 strikeouts.

Saturday saw the Lady Indians defeat Bishop Ready by 12-2 at Pickerington North High School in the first of Hillsboro’s two games on the day. 

HHS led early on with a three-run inning in the bottom of the first, followed with a five-run second and four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Bishop Ready scored two run in the top of the fifth for their only scoring of the game. 

Hillsboro totaled 12 hits in the win, and committed one error. BRHS totaled two hits and committed five errors. 

Four Hillsboro players had multi-hit games, with Mylea Fridley at 3-for-4 with two runs, and teammate Camryn Spruell was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBI. 

Halle Reveal finished 2-for-3 with three runs — and was hit by a pitch — while teammate Eowyn Brown went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. 

Also with a hit was Chloe Roberts, who finished 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Addi Huff went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Madison Dearmon drew a walk for the Lady Indians. Isabelle Brunck and Kayla Seeling each had a steal. 

Spruell was the winning pitcher for HHS, pitching four innings, allowing no runs on two hits and a walk, with eight strikeouts. Spruell threw 49 pitches, 35 for strikes. 

Rhianna Clemons pitched one inning, allowing two runs on no hits and two walks, with one strikeout. Clemons threw 23 pitches, 11 for strikes.

In their second game on Saturday (April 20) the Lady Indians suffered just their second loss of the season, falling by a 6-3 score to Pickerington North at PNHS.

The strongest inning of the game offensively for PNHS was the bottom of the first, with the home team scoring five runs for the 5-0 lead. They built a six-run lead with another run in the bottom of the second. 

HHS responded with a three-run top of the third as that was the final scoring for both teams in the non-conference game. 

The Lady Indians finished with four hits and committed four errors, while Pickerington North totaled seven hits and three errors. 

Isabelle Brunck led HHS at 2-for-3 at the plate, while Halle Reveal (1-for-4, one run) and Chloe Roberts (1-for-3, one RBI) also had hits in the game. Also scoring a run was Mylea Fridley and Camryn Spruell. Eowyn Brown drew the lone walk for the Lady Indians. 

Steals were collected by Reveal, Brunck and Mederith Dietrick. 

Rhianna Clemons was charged with the loss in the circle, allowing five runs on five hits and one walk. Spruell pitched five innings, allowing one run (none earned) on two hits and one walk, finishing with 10 strikeouts. Spruell threw 78 pitches, 60 for strikes.
