Lady Indians shut out Westfall; Spruell tosses a no-hitter

Playing on their home softball diamond Tuesday, the Hillsboro Lady Indians added to their successful season with a non-conference win over the Westfall Lady Mustangs by a 6-0 score. 

The May 6 win at HHS saw Hillsboro score runs in two different innings, starting by gaining a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, then later they had a four-run fourth inning for their six total runs for the game. 

The game also saw senior pitcher Cam Spruell toss a no-hitter, as she went seven innings, allowing no runs or hits, and she totaled just two walks with 16 strikeouts. Spruell finished with 91 pitches, 61 for strikes. 

At the plate, the Lady Indians totaled 10 hits and had one error, while Westfall committed three errors. 

Isabelle Brunck and Addie Huff each had two hits for Hillsboro. Brunck finished 2-for-3 with one run, as she had two extra base hits, those being a double and a triple. Huff was also 2-for-3 with an RBI and two steals. 

Mylea Fridley was 1-for-4 with a run. Spruell finished 1-for-3 with a triple, a run and RBI. Chloe Roberts also had a hit at 1-for-3 with two RBI. 

Addley Miller finished 1-for-3. Madison Dearmon was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Rhianna Clemons went 1-for-3 with a run. 

Reagan Clemons scored a run for the Lady Indians, and Rilynn Swisshelm also scored a run in the win.

Also with steals in the game were Clemons and Leah Vance. 

The Lady Indians are now 17-3 overall this season, as they previously wrapped up the FAC championship with a 10-0 conference mark for the fifth consecutive year.
