The Hillsboro Lady Indians tennis team earned a non-conference victory at home on Saturday by defeating the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 3-2 after a lengthy weather delay.

Hillsboro earned wins in first and second singles, plus a win in first doubles to secure the team win.

Hillsboro’s Jenna Hart won in first singles in two straight sets at 6-0, 8-6, and that was followed by a win in second singles from Adalyn Gaines, as she overcame a 4-6 score in set one to win sets two and three at 6-3, 6-1.

The first doubles win came from Elizabeth Sowders and Taylor-Ann Scruggs, as they too overcame a set one loss at 3-6 by rallying to win the final two sets at 8-6, 6-4.

Natalie Tharp lost in third singles by scores of 2-6, 1-6. The second doubles team of Ciara Woods and Allison Hendrix won set one at 6-0, but lost the final two sets at 4-6, 5-7.
