Hillsboro softball moves to 16-2 overall; gains wins over Chillicothe and Eastern

The Hillsboro Lady Indians recently earned their 15th and 16th wins of the 2023 season with a victory Monday vs. Chillicothe, followed by a win Tuesday against Eastern.

Monday saw the Lady Indians defeat Chillicothe 9-0, starting with Hillsboro scoring three runs in the top of the first, then having a four-run second inning for a 7-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, HHS added two runs for their nine total runs of the game.

Hillsboro totaled 14 hits, while Chillicothe finished with five hits, plus they committed four errors.

Both Kinsey Gilliland and Addie Huff each finished with three hits, as Gilliland was 3-for-4 with two runs, three RBI, and two of her hits were a double and triple.

Huff ended the game 3-for-4 with four RBI and a steal.

Halle Reveal was 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, Camryn Spruell went 2-for-2 with a run, one RBI, a walk and HBP. Isabelle Brunck finished 2-for-4 with a steal.

Eowyn Brown was 1-for-2 with two runs, and Rhianna Clemons finished 1-for-1 with a double. Morgan Garman scored a run, had a walk and one steal.

Spruell was the winning pitcher, throwing seven innings, allowing no runs on five hits and two walks. She finished with 14 strikeouts and hit two batters. Spruell finished with 112 pitches, 73 for strikes, and she faced 29 batters.

On Tuesday, April 25, the Lady Indians won over Eastern at Alice Cassner Field by a 9-3 score in non-conference play.

Eastern scored first with a run in the top of the first, but HHS answered with a two-run first inning of their own for a 2-1 advantage. Hillsboro added four runs in the bottom of the second, then three more runs crossed home plate in the third inning for Hillsboro, giving them a 9-1 lead.

Eastern added two runs in the top of the fifth, finishing the scoring for the game as Hillsboro won by six runs.

Eastern totaled five hits and had one error, while the Lady Indians collected seven hits and had no errors.

Three Hillsboro players finished with two hits as Halle Reveal was 2-for-4 with two runs, a double and one RBI. Eowyn Brown finsihed 2-for-3 with two runs, a double, four RBI, a HBP and a steal. Addie Huff was 2-for-4 as she collected an RBI and a steal.

Camryn Spruell was 1-for-2 with a run, two RBI and two walks.

Kinsey Gilliland collected an RBI, Hannah Burton had two walks, Chloe Page finished with two runs and a walk and Chloe Roberts scored a run and was HBP. Kayla Seeling collected two steals.

In the circle, Hannah Burton pitched seven innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits and four walks. Burton totaled five strikeouts as she threw 96 pitches, 60 for strikes, facing 29 batters.
