Hillsboro Indians advance to sectional finals; shut out Marietta

After having their Division II SE District Sectional Semifinal game moved from Richard Shaffer Park to Whiteoak High School due to field conditions after inclement weather, the No. 15 seeded Hillsboro Indians defeated the No. 18 seeded Marietta Falcons, 5-0 Saturday morning.

The win sends Hillsboro to the sectional finals on Monday, May 15 at Thornville Sheridan, a No. 2 seed. 

As for Saturday, Hillsboro took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and followed that with a run in the fourth and sixth innings for the 5-0 win.

The Indians had seven hits in the tournament win, while Marietta finished with four hits. Each team committed one error.

Ovid Wilson ended the game at 2-for-3 as one of his hits was a double, and he also scored two runs and collected an RBI.

Walker Pence finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. 

Travis Ross was 1-for-2 with one run, one walk, an HBP and a steal. Korbin Adams went 1-for-3 with a walk.

Brayden Hunter forced a walk for the Indians, while Bryce Parsons was 1-for-3 with a run and one walk.

Jackson Cornele scored a run and had a walk. Garet Thompson finished with an RBI.

Thompson was the winning pitcher, tossing a seven-inning complete game, allowing no runs on four hits and four walks. Thompson finished with one strikeout.

Hillsboro now sits at 7-18 overall.
