Hillsboro girls tennis starts season with 6 consecutive wins

Big wins are happening for the Hillsboro Lady Indians in the early stages of the 2025 season on the tennis court, as they’ve begun with a strong 6-0 start in their first six matches, including four wins in the Frontier Athletic Conference. 

HHS started their season on Aug. 12 where they defeated the Jackson Ironladies at JHS by a 4-1 score. From there they gained a win over the Washington Lady Blue Lions by a 3-2 score on Aug. 14. 

The Lady Indians improved to 3-0 with a third straight FAC win to start the season against the Miami Trace Lady Panthers by a 4-1 score on Aug. 19. 

Against Miami Trace, first singles saw Jenna Hart defeat Ava Shull at 7/5, 6/3. The second singles contest had Adalyn Gaines win against Keilyn Daugherty at 6/4, 6/1. Hillsboro in third singles play saw Natalie Tharp gain the win over Lynnie King by scores of 6/0, 6/1. Doubles action started with a first doubles win by Hillsboro’s Taylor Scruggs and Kamrie Lee as they defeated Takyia Yahn and Lizzy Turner at 7/6, 4/6, 10/6. In second doubles, Ciara Woods and Lilah Hardy were defeated by Miami Trace’s Emma Hagler and Taegen Wood 4/6, 4/6.

In a non-conference play Hillsboro won 5-0 over Georgetown at HHS on Aug. 20. 

In the Aug. 20 contest, Hillsboro won all five matches, beginning with a first singles victory by Jenna Hart at 6/1, 6/0. The second singles match included a win by Adalyn Gaines at 6/0, 6/0. Hillsboro in third singles gained the win as Natalie Tharp won at 6/1, 6/1. In first doubles the team of Taylor Scruggs and Kamrie Lee were the winners at 6/2, 6/0. In second doubles the team of Ciara Woods and Lilah Hardy won by scores of 6/0, 6/0. 

That win was the start of three consecutive matches where HHS won by a 5-0 score because on Aug. 21 Hillsboro won 5-0 over FAC rival Chillicothe. 

Against Chillicothe, Hillsboro in first singles saw Jenna Hart win by scores of 6/0,6/1. The second singles match was a winner for Adalyn Gaines who swept her opponent by scores of  6/0, 6/0. HHS won third singles via forfeit by Chillicothe. The first doubles winners were Hillsboro’s Taylor Scruggs and Kamrie Lee at 6/0, 6/0. The second doubles winners were Hillsboro’s Ciara Woods and Lilah Hardy at 6/2, 6/2

In their most recent match on Aug. 27 the Lady Indians won 5-0 over Minford at HHS. 

In the Minford win, the Lady Indians saw Jenna Hart win in two sets in first singles by scores of 8/6, 7/6. In second singles Adalyn Gaines won at 6/0, 6/1 in two sets. Natalie Tharp won in third singles by scores of 6/0, 6/4. In doubles action, first doubles duo of Taylor Scruggs and Kamrie Lee won with scores of 6/2, 6/2. The second doubles team of Ciara Woods and Lilah Hardy won by scores of 6/0, 6/1.

Hillsboro returns to the tennis court at the conclusion of Highland County Fair Week on Saturday, Aug. 6 on the road at Wilmington with a 9 a.m. start.
