Hillsboro earns road win at Paint Valley

The Hillsboro Lady Indians went on the road to Ross County and returned home to Highland County with a non-conference win, as the Lady Indians defeated the host Paint Valley Lady Bearcats, 64-33.
Hillsboro had control from the opening tip-off until the final buzzer sounded in the fourth frame, starting with a 22-6 first quarter where Kobie Miles was on point with nine points in the quarter, sinking a 3-pointer, two two-point buckets and two free throws. Miles led HHS with 21 points, finishing the game with five two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and she was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
The first quarter also saw Tylee Davis made three two-point baskets and Kyra Boyd make a 3-pointer and two-point field goal, while Peighton Bledsoe also scored a two-point basket.
Hillsboro led the second frame at 9-8, with Bledsoe scoring two points off her second basket of the game, Miles chipping in three points off a basket and free throw, plus Ella Jordan made two baskets for four points.
Hillsboro led at halftime by a 31-14 score.
In the second half, the Lady Indians had a 14-point third frame and 19-point fourth quarter, while PVHS scored three points in the third and 16 points in the final frame.
HHS in the third had two points from Bledsoe off a basket, plus six points from Miles off a 3-pointer, two-point basket and a made free throw. There was also Jordan with two points off a bucket, Dinah Ames made two free throws, and Boyd made a bucket for two points.
Hillsboro’s 19 points in the fourth quarter saw Kayla Seeling sink a 3-pointer, while Bledsoe scored two points off her fourth made shot of the game. Miles added three points off a basket and made free throw. Davis was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in the fourth, plus she added a two-point basket for six points in the quarter.
Piper Wilkin made a basket for two points in the fourth quarter, and teammate Annia Young made two free throws, while Boyd made one free throw.
In other final scoring totals for Hillsboro, Davis totaled 12 points, Bledsoe had eight points, Boyd scored eight points, Jordan finished with six points, Seeling had three points, and with two points each were Wilkin, Ames and Young.
HHS as a team finished with 19 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers and were 14-of-17 from the free-throw line. Paint Valley’s team totals included 10 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and they were 7-of-20 from the free-throw line.
Paint Valley was led in scoring by Braylyn Cunningham with 10 points, as she finished with two 3-pointers and two two-point baskets.
The win improves the Lady Indians’ record to 11-2 overall, while Paint Valley stands at 1-11 overall this season.
HHS will play again Wednesday, Jan. 15 on the road against the Washington Lady Blue Lions in a Frontier Athletic Conference game in Fayette County.
