Hillsboro collects 20-run softball win over Washington Blue Lions

It was a day full of rounding the bases for the Hillsboro Lady Indians, as they earned a Frontier Athletic Conference win on Tuesday night, defeating the host Washington Lady Blue Lions 20-2 in five innings. 

The win was Hillsboro’s 33rd consecutive FAC win, and on Tuesday, the Lady Indians wasted no time in taking a 5-0 lead once the top of the first inning was complete. 

HHS began the top of the first by taking first base on an infield error by Washington, putting Halle Reveal at second base. Mylea Fridley doubled in the ensuing at-bat, scoring Reveal, who was at third base following a passed ball. 

Next was a two-run home run by Camryn Spruell, with Fridley and Spruell rounding the bases for the three-run lead. Addie Huff followed with a single hit to left field, and she stole second base. Chloe Roberts followed with a triple to score Huff for the four-run lead. 

Roberts scored next for the 5-0 advantage off a double to left field off the bat of Eowyn Brown. 

HHS followed with a two-run second inning, five runs in the third, a four-run fourth inning and a third five-run inning coming in the top of the fifth. 

In all for the Lady Indians, they had 20 runs, 16 hits, one error and forced 10 walks. Washington finished with two runs, one hit, four walks and six errors. 

Huff was 4-for-5 with two runs, one double, a home run and six RBI. Roberts went 4-for-5 with two runs, a triple and two RBI. 

Fridley finished 3-for-5 with four runs, two RBI and two doubles. 

Spruell finished 2-for-2 with five runs, six RBI and two home runs (including a grand slam), along with three intentional walks. 

Brown was 2-for-3 with one RBI and a double. 

Having one hit for HHS were Isabelle Brunck (one run). Hillsboro also had Reveal finish with two runs and a walk, while teammate Rhianna Clemons scored one run and drew a walk. 

Madison Dearmon for HHS had a walk, while teammate Rilynn Swisshelm scored one run and had two walks. Morgan Garman totaled two runs, Brylee Thornburgh walked once and Reagan Clemons also drew a walk. 

Steals for HHS were by Garman, Huff, Brunck, Roberts and Swisshelm. 

Spruell was the winning pitcher, who in five innings allowed two unearned runs off one hit four walk, and she totaled 13 strikeouts. 

The win improves HHS to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the FAC.
