Hillsboro baseball wins for 6th time in 2023

The Hillsboro Indians gained their sixth win of the 2023 season Thursday afternoon by defeating the host Clermont Northeastern Rockets, 14-7 in non-conference action.

HHS (6-18) led 2-0 after the first inning and 7-1 after two innings. CNE added three runs to their total in the bottom of the third, but the Indians responded with a run in the top of the fourth inning for a 8-4 lead.

The fifth inning saw each team score three runs, followed by HHS scoring one run in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh.

In all for Hillsboro, they had nine hits and three errors, while CNE also had nine hits, but finished with four errors.

Korbin Adams led HHS at 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, one walk, a double and a steal.

Bryce Parsons went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and four RBI. Also 2-for-4 was Walker Pence, as he collected two runs and one RBI.

Travis Ross finished with four walks, five runs, a HBP and two steals. Brayden Hunter was 1-for-4 with one run, a double and three RBI. Jackson Cornele ended the game at 1-for-3 with one run, two RBI, a walk and a steal.

Nic Burns drew one walk, and Evan Fender scored a run, plus he had an RBI, a walk and a steal. Ovid Wilson was hit by a pitch in the HHS win.

Hunter was the winning pitcher, as he went two innings on the mound, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks.

Ashton Clemons pitched 2.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and one walk, as he also had three strikeouts.

Adams pitched 0.2 innings for HHS, allowing two earned runs on two hits, three walks and he had one strikeout.

Ross pitched 1.2 innings, allowing no runs on one hit and no walks, with two strikeouts.
