Greeneview tops Hillsboro in softball action; Lady Indians fall to Jackson for 2nd time this season 

The Hillsboro Lady Indians continued their season-opening homestand on Tuesday evening with a tough loss against the Greeneview Lady Rams, falling by a 10-3 score in the non-conference showdown. 

The March 24 game at Hillsboro High School included a first inning where the Lady Rams got off to a hot start with three runs in the top of the inning for a 3-0 lead. GHS added two runs in the top of the third, but HHS answered with a three-run bottom of the fourth inning making it a 5-2 deficit. 

As HHS cut into the Lady Rams’ lead, Greeneview came back with a five-run top of the fifth inning for a 10-3 lead. GHS added three final runs in the top of the seventh, securing the 10-run, seven-inning win. 

GHS finished with 11 hits and three errors, and the Lady Indians had four hits and five errors. 

Addley Miller had half of Hillsboro hits on Tuesday, as the sophomore was 2-for-3 with one run with one of the hits being a double. She also collected one steal. 

Freshman Emma Wright was 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI, as her hit was a triple. Sophomore Emory Zornes was 1-for-3. Freshman Raeden Workman scored a run for HHS. 

Rilynn Swisshelm pitched four innings for HHS, as the junior allowed no earned runs on five hits and eight walks. She finished with two strikeouts. Freshman Blair Gard pitched 2.1 innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

On Wednesday, March 25 at Jackson High School the Lady Indians lost for the second time this week to the Jackson Ironladies, as JHS won on their home field by a 14-1 score in five innings. 

Jackson dominated the Frontier Athletic Conference contest with 14 runs, 13 hits and they committed one error. HHS finished with one hit and committed three errors. 

Jackson scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, followed by a 10-run bottom of the second inning for their runs. HHS scored their lone run in the top of the fifth inning. 

Hillsboro’s lone hit was off the bat of Rilynn Swisshelm, who was 1-for-2 in the game. 

Chloe Roberts collected an RBI and forced a walk for the Lady Indians. Scoring Hillsboro’s lone run was Leah Vance. Madison Karnes also drew a walk against Jackson. Raeden Workman and Emory Zornes were both hit by a pitch. 

The loss in the circle was charged to Peyton Spurlock, who had one strikeout in 1.1 innings. Blair Gard pitched 2.2 innings, finishing with three strikeouts. 

The losses sent Hillsboro to an 0-5 overall record with a 0-2 mark in the Frontier Athletic Conference. 

Next for Hillsboro is a non-conference away game on Thursday, March 26 at Waverly as the game was originally scheduled for Friday, March 27. Game time is still 5 p.m.
