Tigers fall to Huntington; defeat Paint Valley

Thursday (April 16) saw the McClain Tigers fall to the Huintington Huntsmen in six innings by a 18-8 score, but they rebounded two days later by gaining a non-conference win over the Paint Valley Bearcats by a 9-2 score.
Thursday’s non-conference road game saw Huntington take a 3-0 lead after the first inning concluded, and after each team scored two runs in the second inning, McClain trailed by a 5-2 score.
HHS answered with one run in the bottom of the third, then added another run in the fourth inning for a 7-2 lead.
Then came a wild seventh inning with 17 combined runs as the Tigers scored six runs in the top of the sixth to take a 8-7 lead, but that lead didn't stand up as the bottom of the sixth saw Huntington score 11 runs in the inning for what became a final score of 18-8.
Huntington finished with 14 hits and seven errors, while McClain had eight hits and four errors.
Matthew Cummins led MHS in hits at 3-for-3 with one run, two steals, three RBI and a walk.
Connor Chandler was 1-for-4 with one run, a steal and a walk, Hunter Peabody finished 1-for-3 with a run, one steal, one RBI and a walk. Carson Chandler was 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI and a walk.
Easton Ary went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Jayce Storts finished 1-for-3 with one run, one RBI and a walk. Kolton Lamb collected a run and two walks. Kamden Penwell scored one run for the Tigers and had one HBP.
Four MHS players pitched for the Tigers, including Carson Chandler (2.0 IP, one strikeout), Eli Douglas (3.0 IP, two strikeouts), Cummins and Brycden Whitley (0.1 IP, one strikeout).

Saturday was a better result for the McClain Tigers in their non-conference game against an opponent from the Scioto Valley Conference with MHS defeating Paint Valley 9-2 in six innings at Tom Hixson Field.
The Tigers held a 3-0 lead after scoring three runs in the bottom of the second inning, then they added two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth inning. PVHS scored one run in the top of the fourth and another run in the fifth inning.
PVHS finished with four hits and one error, while the TIgers had seven hits and two errors.
Jayce Storts led McClain in hits at 2-for-4 with a triple, one run and two RBI. Connor Chandler was 1-for-4 with one RBI. Hunter Peabody finished 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Carson Chandler was 1-for-3 with one run, one steal and a walk. Kamden Penwell was 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, one HBP and a walk. Eli Douglas finished 1-for-2 with one run, a steal and a walk.
Kolton Lamb scored a run, had one steal and forced two walks. Easton Ary scored two runs, a HBP and walked once. Matthew Cummins scored one run and forced a walk.
Ary pitched 3.1 innings for the win where he allowed one earned run on one hit and one walk with six strikeouts. Benny Vangundy pitched 2.2 innings, allowing no runs on three hits and no walks.
MHS now stands at 8-4 overall this season.
