McClain scores 34 combined runs in road victories over Unioto and Washington; hit 5 home runs vs. Shermans

Five times this season the McClain Lady Tigers have scored 14 or more runs in a game, and on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Lady Tigers defeated Unioto 20-16 and Washington 14-5 in big road wins. 

The two statement wins by McClain started with Tuesday’s 20-16 win as runs were scored in every inning of the game, with the Lady Tigers hitting five home runs by five different players in the non-conference win. 

Unioto jumped out to a 5-1 lead when the first inning was completed, but MHS came back with seven runs in the second and each team scored three runs in the third for an 11-8 McClain advantage. 

The Lady Tigers added four runs in the top of the fourth, and both teams scored two runs in the fifth. Unioto had a six-run rally in the bottom of the sixth, but MHS answered with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. 

Besides the 36 combined runs, the game also featured 32 hits combined by both teams with McClain having 17 and Unioto with 15. Unioto had two errors and MHS had one. 

McClain’s five-home-run day began with a solo shot hit by Brylee Douglas in the top of the second. She finished the game 1-for-3 with three runs, two RBI and two walks. 

Next were two third-inning homers for the Lady Tigers with Brie Cummins hitting a two-run home run. Cummins finished 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, a double and two steals. 

Later in the third inning, it was a solo homer by Leah Lovett. Lovett was 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, one walk, a double and a steal.

Amaya Ryan hit her home run in the top of the fifth, a two-run shot. She finished the day at 2-for-4 with two runs, three RBI and a walk, plus she added a double. 

Kyndee Williams hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh. Williams was 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI and one walk. 

The Lady Tigers also saw Cami Gall finish 2-for-5 with one run, one RBI as one of her hits was a double. 

Having one hit each for McClain were Emma Posey (1-for-4, one run, one RBI, one walk), Olivia Stegbauer (1-for-4, one run, one RBI, one walk) and Kambriah Tomlin (1-for-5, two runs, one RBI, a double).

Pitching for MHS were Gall, Williams (three strikeouts, winning pitcher) and Cummins (one strikeout). 

Unioto was led by Macie Cox at 4-for-5 with two runs, three RBI, and a walk. Kailani Hutton hit a triple for UHS.

The big bats of the McClain Lady Tigers were still hot the following day, as on Wednesday MHS defeated Washington 14-5 for a Frontier Athletic Conference victory. 

McClain had a very strong effort in the first two innings with consecutive innings of three runs each for a 6-0 lead. The Lady Tigers added five runs in the top of the fourth and two runs in the top of the fifth for a 13-0 lead. 

The Lady Blue Lions scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and MHS completed the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh. 

McClain finished the game with totals of 23 hits and two errors, while Washington had three hits and five errors. 

Seven Lady Tigers had multi-hit games, including two four-hit games. 

Olivia Stegbauer had a huge night at the plate by finishing 4-for-6 with two runs and one RBI, with two of her hits being doubles. 

Also with a four-hit game was Leah Lovett at 4-for-6 with two runs, one RBI and two steals. 

Brie Cummins finished 3-for-6, scoring two runs with one RBI and two steals. 

Amaya Ryan was 2-for-4 with a run, one RBI, a walk and a steal. Emma Posey finished 2-for-6 with a run and one RBI. Cami Gall ended the game at 2-for-3 with one run, two RBI and a steal. 

Kyndee Williams also had two hits at 2-for-2 with three runs, two walks, a HBP and a steal. Emma March was 1-for-2. Also for MHS, Kambriah Tomlin was 1-for-4 with one run, one RBI and a HBP. 

Brylee Douglas finished 1-for-3 with a run, two RBI, and a double. Dalainey Goddard was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Williams was the winning pitcher as she pitched all seven innings, allowing one earned runs on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts. She threw 90 pitches, 50 for strikes, facing 29 batters. 

Lily Snyder was 2-for-2 to lead Washington with one run and a steal. 

MHS is now 3-3 in the FAC and 5-6 overall. Washington stands at 0-6 in the FAC and 1-13 overall.
