McClain Lady Tigers open season with 2-0 start

The McClain Lady Tigers have opened their 2025 season with two consecutive wins, defeating the Unioto Lady Shermans on Monday, followed by a road win at Fairfield Union on Tuesday.
Starting the season on Monday against Unioto, the non-conference win by the Lady Tigers saw them collect 12 hits, while UHS had 13 hits. Unioto struck first with a three-run top of the first inning, while McClain answered with a two-run bottom of the first for a 3-2 MHS deficit.
MHS tied the game at 3-3 with one run in the bottom of the second, but the Lady Shermans charged ahead with four runs in the top of the third, while McClain answered with a run in the bottom of the same inning.
With Unioto leading 7-4 after three innings, it was McClain’s chance to have a big inning, and they, with four runs crossing home plate in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving the home team a 8-7 lead.
The score was tied at 8-8 after UHS scored a run in the top of the fifth, and the Lady Shermans regained the lead in the top of the sixth with another run scored.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Tigers tacked on two runs, taking a 10-9 lead. That score stood as MHS kept the Lady Shermans from scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh to seal the season-opening win.
In the game, MHS committed four errors, while Unioto had three errors in their loss.
Cami Gall hit two home runs in the game for McClain, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs and five RBI in her varsity debut.
Olivia Stegbauer was perfect from the plate, going 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Two of Stegbauer’s hits were doubles.
Lindsey Hutchinson went 2-for-4 with two runs, with one of her hits being a double, plus she had one steal.
Brie Cummins went 1-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and a walk, plus she also added a stolen base in the win.
Amaya Ryan was 1-for-4 with one RBI, while teammate Kenzie Wise was 1-for-4. Leah Lovett finished 1-for-4 with a run and one walk, plus she collected two steals.
Gall was also strong in the circle, pitching four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, three walks and she also had two strikeouts. Gall was the winning pitcher, finishing with 62 pitches, 36 for strikes.
On Tuesday, March 25, the Lady Tigers went on the road for their non-conference game and defeated the Fairfield Union Lady Falcons 19-4 in five innings, as MHS scored 12 runs in the top of the fifth inning.
McClain led 3-0 after the first inning, then followed that with one run apiece in each of the next two innings for a 5-0 lead. After Fairfield Union scored a run in the bottom of the third, MHS added two more runs in the top of the fourth for a 7-2 lead.
MHS then broke the game away with a 12-run top of the fifth, while allowing two runs in the bottom of the inning for the final 19-4 score and the 15-run win.
McClain finished the game with 15 hits and no errors, while Fairfield Union had three hits and four errors.
The Lady Tigers’ hits included a 4-for-5 performance at the plate by Brie Cummins, who hit two home runs in the win, totaling eight RBI and three runs scored.
Lindsey Hutchinson was 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI and a walk, while Olivia Stegbauer finished 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and two walks, as one of her hits was a double, and she was hit by a pitch.
Leah Lovett ended the game at 2-for-3 with three runs and a walk. Milla Everetts was 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Also for McClain, Cami Gall went 1-for-4 with a walk, Kenzie Wise finished 1-for-1 with two walks, and Sarah Easter was 1-for-2 with a run.
McClain also saw Amaya Ryan score a run and draw a walk, and Abbie Lovett also drew a walk. Hayley Worthen totaled two runs, two RBI and a walk, while Peyton Worthen scored two runs and had two walks.
The Lady Tigers had steals from Cummins, Hutchinson, Lovett and Hayley Worthen.
Gall (2-0) was the winning pitcher, allowing four earned runs on three hits and four walks. She threw 75 pitches, 42 for strikes.
