McClain drops FAC home game to Panthers

Wrapping up their 2026 Frontier Athletic Conference schedule on Wednesday, the McClain Tigers fell to the visiting Miami Trace Panthers, 9-5 in a game played at Tom Hixson Field in Greenfield at Mitchell Park.
The Panthers held a one-run lead after the first inning, and the Tigers tied the score in the bottom of the fourth with a run scored.
MTHS answered with consecutive three-run innings in the top of the fifth and sixth for a 7-1 advantage, but MHS did score two runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-3 score. In the seventh, each team finalized their scoring with two runs each for the final 9-5 score.
Miami Trace totaled 13 hits and no errors, while McClain had nine hits and three errors.
Leading the Panthers were Gage Bowers at 3-for-4 with three runs and one walk. Brody McBee also had three hits for Miami Trace at 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Connor Chandler led the Tigers at 3-for-3 with two runs, one RBI, a steal and a walk.
Kamden Penwell was 2-for-3.
Kolton Lamb finished 1-for-4, while teammate Carson Chandler went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a sacrifice fly.
Easton Ary was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Matthew was also 1-for-3 with a run. Hunter Peabody collected an RBI, and Julian Swan scored a run. Brycden Whitley scored a run and walked once.
Connor Chandler pitched 6.1 innings with three earned runs and eight strikeouts. Carson Chandler pitched 0.2 innings with no earned runs and one strikeout.
Miami Trace finishes the FAC season in second place with a 8-2 mark (13-4 overall). McClain ends their FAC schedule at 4-6 (third place), and they are currently 12-9 overall.
The FAC champion is Jackson at 9-1 in FAC games.
Next for McClain is a home non-conference game Saturday, May 9 against the Western Brown Broncos at 1 p.m.
