Lions split SHAC games; defeat North Adams, fall to Manchester

Tuesday evening (April 14) the Fairfield Lions defeated the North Adams Green Devils, 3-2 behind seven hits offensively and eight strong innings on the mound by Cameron Miller.
The Lions gained the road SHAC win with a run in the top of the eighth inning that broke a 2-2 score when Miller grounded out back to the pitcher, allowing Caleb Rice to score a run for the eventual 3-2 win. Rice led off the inning with a single to left field, moved to second on a groundout and went to third with a steal.
Before the excitement of the eighth inning, the score went from 0-0 after two innings to 2-1 in favor of the Green Devils when the third inning was completed. Fairfield tied the score in the top of the fourth for the 2-2 score, which stood until the top of the eighth.
The Lions ended the game with seven hits, and NAHS had five. FHS also committed two errors, and North Adams had zero.
Weston Baldwin was 2-for-3 for the Lions with one walk. Rice ended the day at 1-for-4 with a run. Cameron Miller was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Ben Miller went 1-for-4, while teammate Anderson Humphreys was 1-for-3. Van Bennington also finished 1-for-3. Zane Collins scored a run and walked once. Keenan White scored a run. Ben Miller, Rice and Collins all had steals.
Cameron Miller was also the winning pitcher with eight innings for a complete game. He allowed two earned runs on five hits and one walk with four strikeouts as he threw 82 pitches, 56 for strikes.

On Thursday (April 16), the Lions lost a SHAC game to the visiting Manchester Greyhounds 11-6.
The game included the Greyhounds finishing with seven hits and two errors, while Fairfield had six hits and three errors.
Manchester jumped out to a five-run lead after the first inning was completed, and then after MHS added three runs in the second, with Fairfield scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning, the Lions trailed 8-2.
MHS scored two runs in the top of the fourth, and FHS answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Each team added a run to their side in the sixth inning, and Fairfield scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, falling by five runs.
Manchester totaled seven hits and two errors, while Fairfield had six hits and three errors.
Six Fairfield players finished with a hit, as Caleb Rice was 1-for-4 (a double), while Ben Miller went 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk.
Weston Baldwin ended his day at 1-for-3 with a HBP and one RBI. Cam Caudill was 1-for-3 with a run, one RBI and a walk.
Van Bennington finished 1-for-3 with a walk. Anderson Humphreys was 1-for-4 with one RBI. Teammate Greyson Abbott scored a run and walked once. Cameron Miller scored a run, had a steal and drew a walk.
Ben Miller pitched 1.1 innings, with two strikeouts. Humphreys pitched 5.2 innings with one earned run on four hits and no walks with six strikeouts.
The Lions are now 3-4 in the SHAC and 4-9 overall.

Lions suffer non-conference loss to Eastern Eagles
Playing at VA Memorial Stadium Monday evening, the Fairfield Lions lost a non-conference game to the Eastern Reedsville Eagles.
In what was a 23-2 loss in five innings, the Lions finished with three hits and four errors.
Fairfield’s hits were by Caleb Rice (1-for-2, one run, one HBP, one steal), Zane Collins (1-for-3, one run) and Van Bennington (1-for-2).
Cameron Miller reached the bases after being hit by a pitch. Zack Ahsaruk collected an RBI with a sacrifice fly. Also with one RBI was Ben Miller. Weston Baldwin forced a walk for the Lions.
Pitching for FHS were Ben Miller with two strikeouts and Van Bennington with one strikeout.
Eastern was led by Caleb Abner, who was 5-for-5 with two runs and four RBI. Ethan Edward finished 4-for-5 for the Eagles with three runs and five RBI. Jordan Lorents was the winning pitcher for the Eagles as he pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
The Eagles led 4-2 after the first inning, and from there they scored seven runs in the top of the second, five in the fourth,and seven more in the top of the fifth inning.
