Lions lose on road to Falcons

The Fairfield Lions baseball team traveled to Clinton-Massie High School in non-conference action Friday (April 11), falling to the Falcons by a 7-1 score.

The Lions scored their lone run in the top of the sixth inning as Otis Cockerill reached first base on an error, scoring Landyn Hoskins.

Clinton-Massie scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, then followed that with a four-run bottom of the third for a 5-0 lead. The Falcons eventually led 6-0 with a run in the fifth inning, and then came the aforementioned run scored by Fairfield. CMHS added one last run in the bottom of the sixth for the six-run victory over the Lions.

Fairfield ended the game with five hits and four errors, while the Falcons had four hits and two errors.

Corbin Willey was charged with the loss, allowing seven runs (three earned) on four hits and six walks with seven strikeouts. He threw 120 pitches in the game. Anderson Humphreys pitched 0.2 inning, allowing no runs, hits or walks.

At the plate for Fairfield, Cade Miller was 2-for-3, and Zane Matthews also had two hits, going 2-for-3 with one walk. Also with a hit was Caleb Rice at 1-for-3.

The Lions had Willey force two walks at the plate, Blaine Fauber force a walk, and Zach Ahsaruk also drew a walk against the Falcons.

FHS now stands at 3-4 overall this season.
