Lions lose to Huntington in non-conference game

Wednesday saw the Fairfield Lions suffer their first loss of the ’23 season, as they lost to the host Huntington Huntsmen by a 11-1 score in six innings.

The Lions had four hits and committed three errors in the loss.

Fairfield’s lone run came in the top of the third inning. For Huntington, they scored four runs in the bottom of the second and one run each in the third through fifth innings. In the bottom of the sixth, the Huntsmen scored four runs to complete the run-rule game.

Wyatt Willey finished 1-for-2 with a double and one run. Dow Moon was 1-for-4, and Blaine Fauber went 1-for-2. Gabe Fouch finished with two walks, and Landry Hattan had one walk.

On the mound, the loss was charged to Corbin Willey, who pitched three innings, allowing five runs (one earned) on one hit and four walks. Willey totaled four strikeouts.

Noah Allering pitched two innings, where he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and no walks, with one strikeout. Elijah Humphreys also pitched, allowing four runs off five hits and two walks.

The loss moves FHS to 2-1 overall.
