Lions drop SHAC game to Peebles Indians; gain win over Manchester

Gaining the early lead wasn’t enough for the Fairfield Lions as they lost on the road at Peebles High School to the host Peebles Indians by a 6-1 score in a Southern Hills Athletic Conference contest. 

In the Thursday game (May 7) Fairfield scored their lone run in the top of the first inning as Caleb Rice crossed home plate with the RBI from Cameron Miller. 

Pebbles gained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third, then followed with runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings for the five-run win. 

Cameron Miller finished the game with three of Fairfield's seven hits, as Miller was 3-for-3 with an RBI, a double and a steal. 

Ben Miller went 2-for-3 with a steal. Miller also pitched six innings, finishing the game with 11 strikeouts as he threw 114 pitches. 

Rice finished 1-for-4 with a run. Van Bennington was 1-for-3 with a double. Greyson Abbott forced a walk for the Lions.

Friday night the Fairfield Lions earned a big Southern Hills Athletic Conference win on the road against the Manchester Greyhounds by a 6-4 score. 

The Lions jumped out to an early lead of 3-0 with three runs in the top of the first. Manchester scored their first run in the bottom of the third with a run crossing home plate. 

FHS scored a run in the top of the fifth, followed with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Manchester rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Lions held on for the win. 

Fairfield finished with 10 hits and two errors. Manchester totaled five hits and one error. 

Zane Collins led the Lions with a 3-for-4 day with one run and one RBI. Caleb Rice finished 2-for-3 with two runs, one RBI, a walk and two steals. 

Weston Baldwin was 1-for-2 with two walks. Van Bennington ended the game at 1-for-2 with a double and two HBP. 

Cam Caudill finished 1-for-4 with an RBI. Ben Miller finished 1-for-4 with a double. Cameron Miller finished 1-for-3 with two runs, a walk and three steals. Greyson Abbott scored a run and forced a walk. 

Cameron Miller was the winning pitcher, allowing two earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts. 

The Lions are now 6-7 in the SHAC Div. II standings and 8-14 overall.
