Lions dominate SHAC foe Peebles for 5-inning win; gain victory over Westfall

Fairfield wasted little time in their Southern Hills Athletic Conference game Wednesday (April 26), as a three-run first inning turned into an 11-1 win over the visiting Peebles Indians.

After the three-run first inning by Fairfield, Peebles scored their lone run in the top of the third. Fairfield responded with five runs in the bottom of the third, followed by a three-run fourth inning, completing the scoring for the game.

Cade Miller was the winning pitcher for Fairfield, pitching five innings and allowing one earned run on four hits and two walks. He finished with seven strikeouts in the win. Miller totaled 67 pitches, throwing 47 strikes and he faced 22 batters.

The Lions had three players with two hits each, as Gabe Fouch was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, two RBI and a steal. Wyatt Willey was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Wyatt Collins ended the game 2-for-3 with a run.

Dow Moon was 1-for-3 with one RBI and a walk. Zane Matthews finished 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and a HBP.

On Thursday (April 27) the Fairfield Lions defeated the visiting Westfall Mustangs, 4-3, with the Lions scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning for the non-conference victory.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning for a 1-1 score, and the Lions took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning.

Westfall tied the score with a run in the top of the fourth, and in the top of the fifth took a 3-2 lead with a run scored. The Lions regained the lead for good with a two-run bottom of the fifth inning for a 4-3 win.

Fairfield totaled five hits in the win with Zane Matthews going 2-for-4 with two runs, and Cade Miller was 2-for-2 (two doubles) with one run, one RBI and one walk. Also with a hit was Landry Hattan at 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Wyatt Willey pitched five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks, as he collected six strikeouts for the win.

Noah Allering pitched two innings, allowing no runs on three hits, and he totaled two strikeouts.
