Lady Lions win at Eastern, have SHAC losses against Peebles and Manchester

The Fairfield Lady Lions earned a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win on Monday (May 4) by defeating the Eastern Lady Warriors, 4-3 at EHS in Brown County. 

The Lady Lions took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, but Eastern answered with two runs in the bottom of the third for a 2-2 tied score. 

It was FHS scoring one run in the top of the fourth and another run in the fifth, while EHS added a run in the bottom of the fifth for a 4-3 score. 

Fairfield finished with seven hits and one error, while EHS totaled nine hits and one error. 

Rilee Quickle and Jorgia Smith each finished with two hits. Quickle was 2-for-3 with one run, a triple, one HBP and two steals. Smith went 2-for-3 with two runs, a double, and she had one walk.

Layla Howard ended the day at 1-for-3 with two RBI, while teammate Whitlee Morrow was 1-for-4 with a steal. Ava White finished 1-for-1 with a run, one RBI and two HBP. 

Fairfield also has Alyssa Bales collect a walk and a steal. Jorjia May forced a walk. Ally Maynard collected an RBI. 

Maynard pitched three innings where she allowed one earned run on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts. Quickle pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Thursday (May 7) the Fairfield Lady Lions lost on the road in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play against the host Peebles Lady Indians by a 7-4 score at Peebles High School. 

As for the game this past Thursday, the Lady Indians scored four runs in the first two innings, with a two-run bottom of the first and two more runs in the bottom of the second for the 4-0 lead. 

Fairfield tied the score in the top of the sixth with four runs crossing the plate, but Peebles responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final score of 7-4, a three-run victory for Peebles. 

Fairfield’s totals were eight hits and four errors, while Peebles had 13 hits and no errors. 

Three Lady Lions players had two hits with Ally Maynard going 2-for-3 with a run, and a HBP. Jorgia Smith finished 2-for-3 with one run, while teammate Rilee Quickle was 2-for-4 with one run. 

Alyssa Bales went 1-for-3 with a run and one RBI. Layla Howard ended the game at 1-for-3 with three RBI and a double. Also for FHS, Ava White had a sacrifice at the plate. 

Quickle pitched six innings where she allowed three earned runs with five strikeouts.

The Fairfield Lady Lions were on the road Friday (May 8) as they lost a SHAC contest to the Manchester Lady Greyhounds by an 8-3 score at Manchester High School. 

The SHAC loss saw the Lady Lions move to 9-4 in the SHAC standings as they are in second place with their schedule complete, but that could change. Peebles defeated Whiteoak in conference play on Friday, moving them to 9-3 in the conference with one game left in the SHAC. 

If Peebles defeats Fayetteville on Wednesday (May 13) the Lady Indians will be SHAC Division II champions, but if Fayetteville wins that contest, then Peebles and Fairfield would tie for the conference crown. 

During Friday’s game Manchester led 3-0 after the bottom of the first, then they took a four-run lead with a run in the third.

Manchester added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. 
In the top of the fifth Fairfield scored two runs, then added a run in the top of the sixth. 

FHS finished with eight hits and five errors. Manchester also had eight hits and two errors. 

Alyssa Bales was 3-for-4 with a double. Rilee Quickle went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a triple. 

Ally Maynard went 1-for-4 with a run. Jorgia Smith finished 1-for-2 with a run, and two walks.

Kyla Thomas ended the game at 1-for-1 with a run, a walk and a HBP. 

Jorjia May had a SAC and was hit by a pitch. Ava White finished with a SAC. 

Maynard pitched two innings, allowing no earned runs on two hits and no walks. Quickle pitched four innings with three strikeouts. 

FHS is now 16-8 overall.
