The Fairfield Lady Lions hosted the Fayetteville Lady Rockets at Fairfield High School on Tuesday, where the sixth inning proved to be too much for the host Fairfield team, allowing five runs in the inning and eventually suffering a 6-2 Southern Hills Athletic Conference loss.

The game featured two of the top teams in the SHAC, and two of the conference’s top pitchers in Fairfield’s Caitlyn Quickle and Fayetteville’s Isabella Waddle.

Fayetteville’s Waddle took a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning as Fayetteville eventually gained the four-run win after allowing just two hits in the final inning.

The game was scoreless through the first two innings, but Fayetteville scored an unearned run in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead as Ava Wells doubled, stole third base and scored on a throwing error.
Caitlyn Quickle pitched strong through five innings allowing just the one unearned run while scattering seven hits and stranding nine Fayetteville runners on base. Quickle pitched out of a bases-loaded one-out jam in the top of the fourth inning.
Fayetteville strung multiple hits together in the top of the sixth inning, scoring five runs and taking a 6-0 lead into the seventh inning.

Fayetteville’s Waddle retired the first two Lady Lion batters in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Emmi Vance broke up the no-hitter with a single to right field. Carly Sanders spoiled the shutout with a home run over the left-centerfield fence.
