Fairfield Lions win at home against Valley; earn 5th consecutive victory

The Fairfield Lions continued their winning ways on Saturday afternoon by gaining their fifth consecutive win, and second win in less than 24 hours, by defeating the visiting Valley Indians, 62-56 at Grandle Gymnasium. 

Fairfield led 20-9 after the first quarter, then after being outscored 12-10 in the second frame the Lions held a 30-21 halftime lead. 

The second half saw the Lions win the third frame at 17-8, and in the fourth quarter Valley won the eight minute battle at 27-15, but it was Fairfield gaining the six-point win once the final buzzer sounded. 

Brody Smith led the Lions with 24 points, finishing the game with six 3-pointers, two two-point baskets and he was 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. Smith also added four rebounds, five assists, one steal and he had three blocks. 

Quentin McIntosh finished the game with 18 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double. McIntosh made seven two-point baskets and was 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. With his 13 rebounds, four were offensive rebounds. McIntosh also had one assist, two steals, and three blocks. 

Griffin Friend also had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Friend finished the game with two 3-pointers and two two-point baskets, and within his 13 rebounds, Friend had five offensive boards. Friend also had five assists.  

Zach Ahsaruk totaled six points off two 3-pointers, and added two rebounds. Caleb Rice totaled four points off a 3-pointer and a free throw as he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Rice also collected one rebound, four assists, and one steal. 

As a team the Lions ended the game with 11 two-point baskets, 11 3-pointers, and they were 7-of-11 in their free throw attempts. FHS also had 33 rebounds (10 offensive), 15 assists, four steals, and six blocks. 

Fairfield’s win improves their overall record to 15-6 this season.

Next for No. 3 seeded Fairfield is a Division VII SE District Quarterfinal game on Thursday, Feb. 26 at home against No. 14 seeded Federal Hocking at 7 p.m. at Grandle Gymnasium. The winner will advance to the district semifinals on Tuesday, March 3 at Southeastern High School (8 p.m.) to face the winner of Franklin Furnace Green vs. South Gallia.
